![]() Where did the term "Chicken Grease" come from? Here is what u had 2 say:
From: Claytan
First time I ever heard the term was in the Sign o the Times Concert
video. I never heard anyone else use it except the Artist until D'angelo
payed tribute to him by writing a song on his new album in the artist's
style called Chicken Grease
From: FunkyMF Chickengrease originated when James Brown asked his guitarist to give him some extra stroke on the full length version of "Get It Together".
peace,
From: YahKnoyah As far as eye no, it's a black thang, originating just about anywhere musicians got together for a hot jam session. It came from the same place where The Artist 'got the butter fo' yo muffin.' People actually ate while they played. Everything got greasy, n loose, including the audience. St Louis, Deep South, Your typical Juke joints, all played till late in the night, finger food was grabbed whenever there was a set break, which didn't last long, so they played and ate. Fried chicken, fried fish, and believe it or not Uck! Fried squirrel meat! After people got manners, and no longer ate and played, cause they just don't jam like they usta, there was no more grease on the fingers, but it was in the heart, all one had to do was cry out "Lay it on em', Chicken Grease!" and you knew a FUNKY JAM WAS ABOUT TO B SPREAD!
Besides music, funky people love 2 grub!
That love reflects affectionately n musical
terms such as, Watermelon man, Hot buttered Soul, Stone Soul Picnic, 2
name a few, but that was back in the day, Some of us still suffer from
FUNK FLASHBACKS! If a musician ever says he's /she's gonna lay it on y'all Chicken Grease, that means get ready to jam within a inch o' yo life, shakin a tail feather ( yo booty ). Sho nuff greasy musicians, to say the least, cause they ain't nearly all, The Artist Larry Grahmn, n James Brown. One can't even walk on the floor when they gets thru greasin' up the joint, make U slip n go 2 dancin' even if U didn't ntend 2. Peace, ;))
From: Matthew This one's easy. "Chicken Grease" comes from the style of strummin' and the chords that are played. It sounds real slippery but feels real good, just like after you eat a few pieces of delicious fried chicken. Got dat slippery feelin' on yo' fingers and the chords slip and slide. -Matt H.
From: esa I remember reading an interview with Bootsy Collins in 1986 or 87 in which he said that eating fried chicken was directly correlated 2 manifesting the Funk from his bass. ...and if anybody would know about Funk, it's Bootsy! LoveOutLoud, and Rave...! esa

First time I heard the term, "chicken grease" it was on Sing of the Times. The song is called "Its Gonna b a Beautiful Night" and then resurfaced on a few other tracks after that, one in particular, the "B" side of Gett Off.
Horny Pony.......great little dance number.
From: dbnast Wasn't it a B-side single from The Time's 2nd album???
From: Sbacon1999 "Brother Brooks will be around in a minute with a bucket filled with Chicken Grease" - from the Sign o the Time movie I thought it was a dance/saying that came out of the sign o the times period/tour? Sbacon1999
