Tevin Campbell xpresses wish 2 work with The Artist again
Graffiti reports on June 4th:
Tevin Campbell at the age of 14 first worked with Prince singing and acting in the film Graffiti Bridge. He had a quite a few lines in the film, he played the son of Mavis Staples and in one scene he admires Prince's motorcycle. And in another scene Prince admires Tevin as he sings the song "Round and Round" to a crowd gathered in the street. After Tevin's work in the film Graffiti Bridge he later recorded 4 song's that Prince gave to him for his solo album "I'm Ready". The now 22 year old Tevin hopes to work with Prince again.
"I want to have another album out next year. Singing is my first love,and I have alot of things planned for my future. I would really enjoy doing some work and touring with [the artist formerly known as] Prince again. And recording or touring with Lauryn Hill or Jewel."

Purple Rain on DVD in the UK

Purple Rain has just been released on DVD in the UK through WEA. The catalogue number is Z1 11398 and it is retailing for around £15.99. The sound quality is superb and the film is a lot clearer. There is no extra footage or interactive pieces such as trailers but it does have a variety of language sub-titles.

Lenny Kravitz chooses The Artist on TMF (Belgium)

During TMF's V.I.G. show (Belgian TV) Lenny Kravitz chose The Artist's "1999" videoclip (1983) as one of his favourites.
Lenny Kravitz really loves The Artist's older work. He heard the 1999 album for the first time in a dress shop, where he stayed for about two hours, just sitting and listening to the double album. Lenny also told that he know the blond girl from the videoclip standing beside Lisa (Coleman) playing the keyboards. "That is Jill Jones, I know her from school time". But Lenny Kravitz's favourite The Artist/Prince stuff is on the Dirty Mind album (1980).
Beside The Artist's 1999 videoclip, also Madonna's Justify My Love, Finlay Quay's Sunday Shining, Bob Marley's Could You Be Loved and Destiny's Child's No No No were chosen by Lenny Kravitz.
The Very Important Guest show featuring Lenny Kravitz was broadcast twice in a week (on Tuesday, May, 15, from 10 p.m. until 11 p.m., and on Thursday, May, 17, from 9 p.m. until 10 p.m.) on the Belgian music channel The Music Factory.

Clarence William III in The General's Daughter
Film reports on June 18th:
Clarence Williams III the actor who portrayed Prince's father in the film Purple Rain appears in the new film The General's Daughter as part of an all star cast which includes Timothy Hutton, John Travolta and James Woods. Clarence's next project is the soon to be released film The Legend of a Pianist.

Opie Gone Bad covers The Artist

There is a very fun funk band to listen to from out here in Colorado called "Opie Gone Bad". They have at least one CD of their own funky music, but they cover quite a few of the classics including songs from Sly, James, and The Artist.
In fact, the first time I heard them they were playing Sly's Thanku4letinmebmyselfagain up in Little Bear, and in the middle of the song they went performed all of Sexy MF, then finished with the Thanku4.......!
I asked the lead singer (Jake) if they knew at the time that The Artist and Larry Graham were touring together this past year, and that I had flown to see them in KC with my son and my mom and sat front and center for the show. He said that they were not aware of that, he said they just thought it would be cool to mix two great funk songs together like that.
The next time I saw them they did the same thing, and they still do it, as well as Get Off, Alphabet Street, and more and more of their own music. The stuff is very funky.
Since then, Jake mentioned to me that he and the band agreed that the show I went to was one you definitely make a special trip to see.
Anyway, if you are in Colorado, go see them play. They also tour elsewhere. Check out their schedule at www.opiegonebad.com. You will love the show!

'His producer called me Tuesday,' said Northrop operations manager Sally Dischinger. 'Nothing is certain, but they are thinking about it.'"

I don't know whether or not this has been posted yet, but I thought it's worth mentioning...
I read this in next week's Dutch tv guide Vara tv magazine: On Friday 11 june a new series starts on Ned. 1: a movie-of-choice. Everybody can vote for one of three listed movies. They will be three different movies every Friday.
In this first episode, one of the three choices is Purple Rain. You are able to to vote for your favorite film of that night from a week in advance: by phone 0909-0061 at 60 cents per minute, or by email at www.avro.nl.
The results will be announced on the same night of the movie, at around 21.00. The movie itself will begin at 21.30. I know there will be at least one vote for Purple Rain.

The Artist meets Prince Charles at Versace collection launch in London

The Artist met briefly with Prince Charles at an event held in London to launch the new Versace collection. This was the first time the world famous singer/songwriter had met Prince Charles and the 2 were seen having a friendly conversation during the evening. The Artist also provided a tape of a new version of his song "Sexy MF" to be played at the event.
A recent issue of US magazine includes a picture of the meeting, 4 those interested.

Tom Jones and Des'ree talk about The Artist on UK TV on June 9
DJM reports on June 10th:
last night june 9th on channel 4 (uk terrestial t.v) Jo Whiley's late night informal music chat show had guests Tom Jones, Des'ree and John Simm (good actor and musician!) talking breifly about the artist.
The show feature an item on the artist and they played clips from three videos (Kiss, Alphabet St. & 1999) then Jo Whiley tried to hop on the usual media bandwagon of questioning Mr Nelson's mental condition and tried to whip up some sort of media criticism sound-bite from her guests.
But Tom Jones and Des'ree were really cool with their answers. Both stated their love of his music and Tom Jones (honest and straight) didn't claim to 'really know him' whilst Des'ree said some very positive things about advice the artist had imparted to her some years ago, advice that she still heeds now. Des'ree also mentioned working with him but busy schedules meant it not possible. (But there's always the future.)
It's ironic to note that so many media commentators (i.e presenters, interviewers, critics, deejays) want to demean the artist whereas those in the profession (musician, actors, film-makers) are generally positive about him. Strange no?
Must b something in the water they drink :).

So far plans 4 a special Drag/Entertainmet showcase will be held feturing the music of the Artist, and his music, as well as the music of protogees such as Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, The Time, Jill Jones, and many others will be played the entire night. Purple Rain movie showing in DC area theater on June 7
The LoveSexyDC club is organizing the showing of Purple Rain at a real movie theater in Silver Spring, MD (suburb of Washington, DC) on Monday, June 7th. Proceeds to go to Love4OneAnother charities.
A total of 150 tickets was made available. If the demand is big enough, they might b able 2 move it to a bigger screen at the same multiplex.

To celebrate our 5th anniversary & SOMEONE else's 41st birthday! It is also the 15th anniversary of the film!
A Purple Rain Interactive Experience
We will be showing the film on the BIG screen and welcome audience sing-alongs, participation, and dancing in the aisles! If you are like me & have never seen the movie as it was originally intended, this is your one chance.
Feel free to dress as a character or just in 1984 fashions!
It will be at 8 pm, Monday 6/7 at AMC City Place in downtown Silver Spring. Lots of parking and right on the Metro red line. Next door is a hotel, if you are coming from out of town - I'll pass on the info to you - e-me.
There will be many Drawing Prizes!
Tickets ($10 each) will be sold IN ADVANCE ONLY -- you can either purchase them from me at the party this Saturday or by mail (see address below). Or if you live/work near Wheaton, we can arrange a pick-up. Repeat: there will be no at-door ticket sales, advance purchase only!
We must sell 90 tickets at $10 each to break even.
Please help make this a success by dragging along those "borderline fans" and newbies - so they can experience Purple Rain "old school style." All you all who say you'll be make a meeting "soon" - with a three month advance notice, I expect to see you there! What else cool are you doing on a Monday night?

Jill Jones per4ms one song in NYC on June 3
Life reports on June 4th:
Jill Jones performed one song on thursday night [June 3rd] at a trendy upscale club in New York City called "Life". She took the stage at around 10:00 pm EST, to loud cheers. Jill looking very lovely in an off the shoulder white figure hugging dress with her hair a long natural brunette looked stunningly beautiful, as she smiled and waved to everyone. She performed a song called "Station", which has a unique sound all it's own, it was kind alike a cross between "Violet Blue and "The Question of U" by Prince. It was well received by everyone. She really looked good slim and trim and a drop a man to his knees smile. Later after all the performers had performed, the club then became open for dancing as the DJ played the regular NYC club hits he mixed in the Prince song "Kiss" and Jill was there among the crowd meeting people and being very kind to everyone I could not help but feel Jill jones may all your new dreams come true. And I hope they do.
