Jam of the Year World Tour / "Newpower Soul" | One-off Per4mances |
September 6th: July 30th: Graham Central Station with May 30th: Las Vegas May 29th: Las Vegas
January 2nd: Las Vegas
January 1st: Las Vegas |
July 19th: Club Life, NYC |
announced in early July 1997 that he and the NPG would kick off their "Jam of the Year" world tour in Detroit on July 21st, 1997. There were initially few details available on this tour. It turned out 2 b not the anticipated Emancipation world tour as promotion of the Emancipation album has stopped, but more like an on-going type of tour.
After a series of dates in North America from July 1997 till June 1998 -- most dubbed "Jam of the Year" shows but some dubbed "Newpower Soul" shows with Larry Graham and Chaka Khan --, then embarked on a European tour in August 1998.
toured a number of American cities again in September and October 1998. A new round of European dates was then announced in October 4 the second half of December. The shows took place in various European countries. A few more dates were played in Las Vegas in the 1st half of 1999. No further dates r xpected as of July 1999.
It should also b noted that has been playing a fair number of aftershows since the beginning of the tour, even in cities that had never seen an aftershow take place be4. The aftershows go from 30 minutes 2 over 2 hours and consist of a mix of covers of old 2nes and various songs by
. Keep ur ears open 4 an aftershow in ur town! B careful, however: there r always lots of rumours flying around -- ur best bet is always 2 listen carefully during the regular show, when they usually announce where the afterparty will take place.
Ever since 1995 and the special series of "Love 4 One Another" per4mances, has been playing impromptu shows at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota on a one-off basis.
These shows r usually announced at the very last minute, either on this web site or via a local radio station or other channels. They often take place on Friday nights (early Saturday morning, with doors usually opening around 1:00 AM), but that has not always been the case. The attendance fee is usually $7.
If u decide 2 travel from afar 2 attend one of these shows, please remember that u r doing so at ur own risk, as there's always a chance that the show might b cancelled at the last minute.
As some of u might have noticed, the links 2 reviews and articles that appear in various newspapers across the world during the tour have a tendency 2 "die" after a while (meaning that when u click on the link, it tells u that the page no longer xists).
This is simply due 2 the fact that many newspapers put a limited number of their articles online and then either move them 2 another location (an "archive") or simply remove them from their web site after a while. When the articles are moved 2 an archive, sometimes u need 2 b a subscriber 2 a special service in order 2 access them, in which case there's not much we can do. If they were simply moved and are still available 4 free, then it's just a matter of updating the link. We don't always have time 2 search 4 each and every article in its new location, so if u happen 2 have located an older article in its new location, please let us know so that we can update the link.
Thanks 4 ur comprehension.

Please note that in this page we r only trying 2 help as many people as possible by making the in4mation available as soon as possible. Sometimes the in4mation proves 2 b wrong and people are tempted 2 blame us 4 having put it online in the first place. It's never an easy task and we take every possible precaution, by stating it clearly when a piece of info is not officially confirmed yet. We sometimes have 2 rely on the in4mation that is provided 2 us by local friends. In a word, please take the in4mation included in this page 4 what it's worth and then, take ur own chances:-).
Please also note that ticket services such as Ticketmaster, Ticketlink, Ticket Service or other services are often unaware of a show happening until the last minute. Just because they aren't aware of any shows coming doesn't mean that the shows won't happen.
On 2 another serious topic... Un4tunately, the recent tours have also given, once again, some dishonest people the opportunity 2 xploit the fans' true love of music. The "scalpers" phenomenon is nothing new, but it is particularly disgusting 2 see it happen in the case of a benefit tour like the Love 4 One Another tour, where all proceeds from tickets are supposed 2 b going 2 a good cause. And the other new thing is that it's happening on the Internet as well. People are currently trying 2 sell u tickets 4 4thcoming shows at the highest possible price, sometimes well over $100, when the actual price was never more than $50 maximum ($100 in the case of VIP tickets).
We are strongly against any kind of xploitation of art and music 4 wrong purposes. We are strongly opposed 2 scalping and will do our best 2 prevent the spreading of this phenomenon on the web and beyond. But it also depends on each of u. U have 2 b strong enough 2 refuse 2 buy tickets from scalpers. The temptation can b great, of course, but the primary reason why scalping is working is that people are buying the tickets, and scalpers know it. is also currently taking every possible precaution by announcing shows at the last minute and using things such as a voucher or wristband system, which takes more time but enables him 2 ensure that only the "right people" get 2 buy tickets.
Thanks 4 ur comprehension.
