Jeff Dempsey attended the August 20th show in Raleigh and reports:

Hi all Time freaks,I attended the August 20 gig in Raleigh NC . The Time opened the show with 3 other acts and it was a wild funky night! Morris withis bad self opened with the Oaktree and it was on, with the great tunes like "777-9311" hard and funky-I lost what was next but Jerk Out was very tight . The guys played the Bird ,"Walk" ,Jungle Love, "The Stick","Wild and Loose, and a of course,COOL,the band invited some people on stage to do the bird ,and the joint got into it,just for the record, the band gives 110% to the people, that is rare today!!! The Time set the standard for the night and the rest of the bands had a hard "Time" keeping up to the par!!! Great show Morris!!!!

Rhastus69 attended the August 6th show and reports:

The Time at the casino Magic casino in Bay St Louis Mississippi on August 6, 1999 The show was almost exactly the same as the Pensacola show in may, but it still ruled. the setlist follows

1. Guitar intro
2. The Oak tree
3. Jerk out
4. Get it up
5. Cool
6. 777-9311- best version I've heard live yet
7. Girl
8. Wild and loose
9. The Stick
10. Fishnet
11. Blondie- this ruled, but nobody knew it so it might not survive the setlist much longer
12. My Drawers- I love this song, especially after Blondie, too rocking kick ass tunes
13. gigolos get Lonely Too
14. if the kid can't make you come- Morris was really loose tonight and talking shit like the pimp daddy he is
15. Ice cream castles
16. the Bird
encore- Jungle love- this was the only difference from the Pensacola show, they didn't play an encore there

The Time per4ms in New Orleans

Rhastus69 reports:

Went and Saw Morris and the Boys for the tenth time on September 24, 1999 at Tipatina's in New Orleans. We got there about 8:30 p.m. The doors opened at 9 p.m.

The Time hit the stage around 11:30 p.m. and as always it was great. Here's the setlist with my ever insiteful comments : )

1. Guitar Intro- kind of twanging tonight, sort of a heavy metal country
2. The Oak Tree- Morris was in this red suit and looking too COOL
3. Jerk out- Jerome was doing that damn 80's robot/mime thing and then he moonwalked, too funny
4. Get it Up- a highlight as usual, needs to follow the intro though
5. Cool- the title says it all
6. 777-9311- they ripped this one up, Torey was in the zone tonight really shredding. They stopped, Morris talked some shit and then they went back into it. Morris left the stage and this is where they usually slow it down and play Girl, but not tonight. he came right back on stage and went into
7. Wild and loose
8. The Stick
9. Blondie- this rules and Morris, Jerome and Torey had the headbanging going, I thought I was at a damn heavy metal concert. Jerome gave this dude to the right of me the Mic and let him sing the chorus( ver cool and i was very jealous) Nice to still see this in the set, but most of the crowd didn't know it so who knows how much longer it will stay in
10. My Drawers- another favorite, Morris and Jerome were doing the "its burnin', its burnin' " bit from the end of the skillet after this one
11. Fishnet
12. Gigolos get lonely Too- finally slowed it down, I could have left after My drawers and been happy tonight, it rare they get this far in before they slow it down, but they were really rocking tonight and some other cool stuff was about to happen
13. If the kid can't make you come- they brought a bunch of women on stage to dance( which is difficult with Tip's small stage). Morris and jerome talked there shit. Jerome came over to me with his mic and let me sing the chorus( If the kid can't make you come, nobody, nobody can). Then he tells the crowd "thats my boy" grabs my hand and then my Wife's
14. Ice Cream Castles
15. The Walk- My Wife's favorite song by them so thats cool that they played it, they didn't at the last show we saw
16 The Bird- now i'm trying to hide cause i know jerome is coming to get me, but it didn't work. i was the second one he picked to get on stage. So i'm right next to Morris of course( he has to point at me for the "white folks your much to tight" line). i guess i looked like a deer in the headlights cause jerome kept asking me if I was ok LOL. I tried to fade to the back cause of course Morris and Jerome are doing there thing and these other guys that got up there had the moves down, but Jerome wouldn't let me. he come by grabs my arm and says "were doing the chili sause" so we slide and i can die right now I did the frigging chili sause with morris and jerome : ) We all took a bow and jerome told me he was glad we made it : )
Morris had left the stage

Encore
17. Jungle Love- really rocked and the just kept playing and i actually thought they might do another song, but that was it. Jerome was saying all kinds of crap after Morris left, but the band was so loud you could barely hear what he was saying, but he did say that they had a NEW ALBUM and it would be out in THREE MONTHS. Who knows if it will actually happen, but thats the first time I've actually heard them say anything about this on stage so maybe its finally going to happen

Another great show. if you ever get a chance to see these guys, GO you won't regret it

Interview with The Artist in Swedish newspaper

Peter Skingley reports that Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet published an interview with The Artist on September 18th, conducted a few days earlier by Magdalena Kvarning in New York.

Click here 2 read the Aftonbladet article (translated). Please remember that this is a translation from Swedish and shouldn't b construed as a word-4-word account of what The Artist said.

As well, please note that NPG Records has provided us with the following correction:

The Artist never used the word "annulled" 2 describe the state of his and Mayte's union. We're sure that the interviewer meant no harm by this mistranslation.

SonicNet interviews The Artist

On the occasion of the Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic listening party with Arista CEO Clive Davis and The Artist in NYC on September 16th, SonicNet was granted an interview with The Artist, which appeared on their web site, as mentioned earlier, in an article dated September 17th.

NPG Records has provided us with some feedback about the interview:

The process of interviewing The Artist without the use of a tape recorder presents its share of advantages. The main one is that the only place u can read a word 4 word account will b here at Love4OneAnother. So, ultimately, the words r the writer's interpretation of what The Artist said.

When reading the many articles in the future, please keep this in mind. The Artist is by nature a very positive being and xtremely self-assured. Whenever there r obvious errors in the TRANSlation we will correct them... Here r the following 4 the recent SonicNet article...

  1. 1999 was the year The Artist took 2 reflect and relax. He had no plans 2 release an album, originally.

  2. The Artist still is Prince, he just doesn't use the name professionally.

  3. "diminutive?" As The Artist's influence grows, so does the usage of this word by the media.

  4. The Artist was wearing a red caftan, not a blouse.

  5. The sentence "it's not about going in one direction" was referring 2 the fact that The Artist plays many different styles on Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.

A gracious thank u 2 SonicNet 4 access 2 their audience... Perhaps they will run a Part 2 of their interview with The Artist and cover the topics he discussed like his relationship with Larry Graham and their ongoing study of The Bible and how it has affected his music.

Billboard article on Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic preview party

As reported earlier, Billboard had an article dated September 17th on the Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic preview party (see related story).

NPG Records has provided us with a number of factual corrections regarding this article:

  1. Ani DiFranco does not sing on "Eye Love U, But Eye Don't Trust U Anymore".

  2. There is no strings section on "The Greatest Romance". It is in fact a keyboard patch played by The Artist.

  3. There is only one version of "The Greatest Romance" featured on Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.

  4. The agreement with EMI 4 the album Emancipation was 4 one album only. This would xplain the short life of the agreement. EMI's demise didn't help matters either.

  5. There has been no New Year's Eve event announced.

CDNow/AllStar article on Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic preview party

As reported earlier, CDNow/AllStar had an article dated September 17th on the Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic preview party (see related story).

NPG Records has provided us with some feedback regarding this article:

  1. The Artist never asked 2 b called "The Artist". Again, this is a function of the media's sometimes refusal 2 employ the symbol he has chosen 4 his name.

  2. The song "Silly Game" was misprinted as Silly Dream.

New York Daily News article quotes The Artist

FUNKTEER reports that a New York Daily News article dated September 16th published on the occasion of the private listening party 4 Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic in NYC (see related story) quotes The Artist as saying that his contract with Arista was remarkably short and that, as far as collaborations with other artists on the album r concerned, they followed the belief that "u give me something 4 my album, and I'll give u something for urs" -- which could b an indication of more good things 2 come :).

The article also mentions the rumours of a possible surprise gig in NYC later on 2nite, altho we don't have any official confirmation at present.

Interview with New York Times

The September 12th, 1999 issue of the New York Times features an xclusive interview with The Artist.

NPG Records has provided us with some feedback about the interview:

NPG RECORDS on behalf of The Artist would like 2 thank Anthony DeCurtis and the New York Times 4 allowing him a forum in which 2 speak. The article seemed well-intentioned, although there's just a couple of things we'd like 2 clear up:

  1. The Artist never "disowned the music he made when he was known as Prince". In fact, in his intent 2 own the Prince legacy, The Artist is re-recording the catalog in its entirety.

  2. The Artist is not "trying 2 deprive Warner Brothers of royalties"... If this is a side-effect of his re-recording the catalog, then so be it, but by no means is this his intention. And, in fact, he believes that the entire Prince catalog belongs in his family's name, since he was its creator.

  3. The Artist never "announced that while he remains The Artist Formerly Known as Prince...". Once again, this moniker is something created by the media. A simple remedy 4 this would b 2 use his chosen symbol: The Artist

  4. While Carlos Santana has definitely influenced The Artist's solo guitar style, he is by no means his "idol." This slot is reserved 4 all things spiritual.

  5. The estate in Spain was purchased by The New Power Generation and serves as a residence 4 all its members. The Artist never specifies where he lives.

Thank u again, Mr DeCurtis. The doors of Paisley Park r always open 2 u.

New interview with The Artist in the Minneapolis Star Tribune

On the occasion of The Artist's 4thcoming show at the Mill City festival on September 6th (see related story), the September 3rd issue of the Minneapolis Star Tribune features a new interview with The Artist, in which he discusses the 4thcoming Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic and more.

NPG Records has provided us with some feedback about the interview:

The Artist would like 2 thank the Star Tribune 4 the positive article that appeared in the Friday edition. We would also like 2 clarify a few things that may have been misunderstood at the time of the interview.

  1. Altho The Artist has been referred 2 as "The Artist", this title does not appear on any NPG release. Use of the symbol 'The Artist' is a way 2 distinguish the past from the present when discussing this artist. Use of the name "Prince" refers 2 someone whose music (at present time) is owned by Warner Bros. Records.

  2. Most of the info that was business-related "usually" came thru managers or secretaries but not "always". The Artist -- when he went by the name Prince -- did from time 2 time speak directly 2 the president of Warner Bros. Records.

  3. "Record companies want 2 own 'r' (not their) creations."

  4. These days Mayte and The Artist refer 2 each other as "mate" or "counterpart," not as husband and wife. The negative energy produced by CONtracts of ANY kind was discussed at length but not included in the final piece that appeared. The term "wife" is a title, much like 'latina' or 'black'. B4 The Artist and Mayte were husband and wife, they were man and woman.

  5. The Artist spoke 2 Chuck D. about how "one should knock down the MISGUIDED view that the dollar bill is the most valuable thing 2 strive 4." The article read as "knock down what they value."....

All in all, we were very pleased with the healthy attitude of the piece and look 4ward 2 furthering a positive relationship with the Star Tribune.

Love4oneanother,
NPG Records
