I could easily go on selfish and say like many that post there comments on prince related sites, that they just want more. However, I can honestly say that if the man chose to stop for whatever reasons, he gave more than he had to already. I think that all God's creatures need to rest. Even God rested on the "7th" day.I pray that all is well within.

    God Bless

We all want a lot of new albums and a lot of world tours.
    Simple, no???

He is a genius, I and others that have never seen him perform live want to. His music has touch my life and others, specially when i was growing up. He is an inspiration to me . To me Prince is a music man he will never stop playin until he dies, I believe he enjoys sharing his music with others. I hope this is not a consideration??? Prince I hope to see you in concert soon. 18 years is long. your music like I said help me grow, in a lot of ways. My biggest dream is to dance with you. Thanks shawna F.

never say never, isn't that how the saying goes?

i must say that a statement like that is very hard to believe. however, even as a long time enjoyer of his musical talent, i fully realize that being in the entertainment industry would make it very hard for him to progress spiritually. quite frankly, i'm sure he has enough stuff in the vault that he doesn't need to record anything new, or at least not so regularly, and still make a decent living. i truly pray that whatever his decision is, it is a prayerful one. life without the truth = no life at all.

No there is more coming up, becaurse Europe is still waiting for you. For now we can follow you on the internet and maybe next year we can see you, hear you and feel you. To be with you is to be free.

    I love you forever.

With kind regards to the rainbow children in Amerika.
    I see you soon.

If there's only one thing I know in life it is this: never believe an artist when they say they are going to retire. They always keep producing art/music/books/whatever-- they might just keep it to themselves this time around. The world will go on, though it won't be as funky with out his work.

Many greats have threatened to retire: Little Richard, David Bowie, Al Green, Master P, The Band. . the list goes on. And they all come back after a while. Though I give props to Mase for giving his life to the Lord and thus far sticking with his decision. Didn't Prince threaten to pack it in after ATWIAD? And then years later we get masterpieces like Sign O' The Times, The Black Album and Emancipation.

If Prince doesn't want to release any more albums or tour it'd be a damn shame, but I have no doubt that he'd keep making music. An artist simply can't live a life without doing it. He might not release it on a huge scale anymore, but I have no doubt we'd hear it sooner or later.

Rock on, whatever it is you may do.

    Randy

I can't imagine not having new Prince recordings or tours to look forward to. He has so much left to offer it would be a shame to see him call it quits.

Hey, I've been a HUGE friend since I was 11 years old!! I will be 29 in October!! I'm married and I'll ask my husband "Who does Andrea LOVE?" and he replies "PRINCE"!! It's a funny thing I bring up once in a great while.
If PRINCE never tours again, that would be a damn shame. I know he can't keep from making more music. Momma didn't raise no fool!! As far as distributing it to his friends, it seems that was and is part of his calling, at least I want it to be. Ha Ha. I think it would be hard to live if he didn't tour or distribute more music. I personally have the upmost respect for Prince and he's got to do what he's got to do!!
Are you saying no more albums and just downloading off the NPG website? That would probably be O.K. Without the touring I don't know!! Taking a decent break from time to time us "GROUPIES" could live with.
I live in Nashville, Michigan. Went to the Grand Rapids show last year. I work in a factory and a couple weeks B4 the concert I would scream "I LOVE PRINCE" and it is loud in my piston ring making factory!! It was a trip!! It made people smile. It got me soooo hyped b4 the concert that when Prince come out on stage I thought I would pass out !!! :)
I will never LOVE another artist or performer more than Prince!! He has a way of making people obsessed!! He's the COOLEST!!

    Sincerely, Andrea Olmstead

    WHY??????????????????????????????????

No way, I think the joy u give should b shared by all. If other people or companies try to F*** with the magic it is there loss. But share the Funk brother share the Funk!

Just come on over instead. No tours no recording don't mean no music.

A decision to never record or perform again would be heartbreaking. Not only heartbreaking, but as a consumer of his product ($100 a year for the premium membership, plus various concerts, cd's and other merchandise) I'd be pissed.

I'm fully aware that it's a personal decision for Prince and my opinion should not matter, but I've come to expect new material on a fairly consistent schedule and am willing to buy it - it's exciting to get the latest material and expose you friends to it. By far, Prince is the only musician I look forward to having new material from months in advance. The NPGMC is wonderful - I now get my new music fix every month. In the countless hours of entertainment Prince has provided over my 18 years of being a "fam" I've always been please - never have I been disappointed with my purchases.

Of course I'd eventually get over the lack of new material and move on, but the fact of the matter is that this decision would be a tremendous loss for the longtime "fams" and those that have yet to discover the depth of Prince and his music.

    - b

I hope that Prince WILL tour and record more albums. With the lack of artistic quality in most music these days, Prince is still a shining example of just how good music can be. As a fairly new fan, I've never seen him live and am dying to go to at least one of his concerts. I love his music and he has quickly muscled his way into the pantheon of my favorite musicians.

So, in short, Prince, please tour and keep recording those fantastic collections of music.

Never say never... question - why the decision to never record or tour again?

Shakespeare without a quill, Martin Luther King without a dream, Michael Jordan without a court, Tiger Woods without clubs! People change the world! Keep on makin' that change!

    GET THE FUNK UP

why would you give up on something that you love, that is in your heart, and is your profession? i dont understand why one would ask this question????

What's behind such postulation and why even put this out there? Prince, may the peace of God be bestowed upon him always, is free to make the decisions in his personal and professional life that are best for him regardless of the responses (including this one) of his beloved fams. While his recorded and live performances are greatly appreciated, he need only to continue to be true to himself. If such a decision is made on his part, there's no need to sensationalize it. May God's blessings be upon him.

it would be one of the saddest things ever 2 happen. i love prince`s music and i wished he`d never stop making music and share it with us. is he really seriously thinking about that? the more i think about it, the more upset i get.
    PLEASE, don`t ever stop recording!

I'll make it short. PLEASE NO!

Prince is a musician and artist in the truest senses of those words. I think he'd die were he to never tour or record again... unless he plans to just hole up at Paisley and never let anyone hear what he's doing. That would be a way to "eliminate the middleman" in terms of a record label or any industry support. But if a tree falls in the woods... Why play if you aren't going to be heard? That would be personally satisfying to an extent, I imagine, but Prince's gift is too great to not be shared. I hope the light touches him and brings him to a peaceful place where he can create and release.

    Dear NPGMC,

I hope that this is not true as it will be a sad day in my life. I do not know Prince personally, but I do think that this will be a sad day in his life too. So much of his life has been devoted to creating and performing music. It seems odd that he would give it up permanently.

If this is true, then I hope that Prince has reached some level of clarity and happiness to make this decision. If he makes this decision for the wrong reasons, then we have not heard that last album from Prince. If it is for the right reasons (which only he would truly know) then I wish him the best and do hope that he continues to support the NPGMC by releasing songs from the vault.

When the day comes that I know that I may never hear a Prince song that I have never heard before, well that will be one of the saddest days of my life.

I guess that will mean that I (and other fams) did not "Live to see the dawn"

Prince, I wish you the best in whatever you decide to do. You do not owe me anything and have been a great friend that has taught me how to deal with life on many levels. There has been a song to get me through every little or major time in my life. If this is truly goodbye, then let me say a very personal "Thank you" for all that you have given me. I cannot put in words what your music has meant to me. You were a father figure to a fatherless child that will continue to pass your words of wisdom on to others.

    Peace,
    liltalkm

why not? it's in his blood, every inch of him, it's in his Soul! Brutha couldn't stop if he tried - but why would he? Your the website, u tell us !

Music has rarely been so bland, MTV is terrible, MTV Base no better - just bland. That's why the fams wanna see new joints in the wreka sto, videos on TV, hits on the radio. Back in the '80's, even when there were some decent acts about who couls also deliver LIVE, no-one - WITHOUT EXCEPTION - could compete with Prince on stage and his music screamed out of radio - lifted the stale blanket. - OR AM I JUST GETTING OLD?

Is the hunger still there? eye no u've been 2 the mountain top and maybe u've found some new spiritual food to digest, BUT u're a messenger and have an incredible gift of sharing the message. To not share that message with as many people as possible is such a waste and not making the most of your God-given gift. Own it but share it to all - not a select fam-base of NPGMC members.

Eye no that no matter what fams say on NPGMC and Prince.org etc about how charts etc don't matter - we know they're controlled and the music poor - we'd ALL love to see our man at No1 with a Bullet and all over our screens and in our local arenas with lavish stage sets!!!!!

C'mon - I can feel a vibration, put down your toothbrush, and get to a bass!!

    Peace and love
    Dave.

I have read alot over the years about different stars and what is happening in their lives, but I don't think that anyone has gotten as much degrading remarks as Prince. I must admit that there are things that I don't understand about the way Prince's chooses 2 live his life, but it not up 2 me 2 b his judge and jury. People do not always know all of the facts. There are different reasons why people react 2 situations the way that they do. There are alot of things that people try everyday 2 make their lives better that may not make sense 2 other people, but because Prince is in the spotlight it gives people the opprotunity 2 tear his life apart.

Prince it is my wish 4 u 2 know that what matters 2 me is ur music. It has given me more than I can express. How u choose 2 live ur life is ur business and is between u and ur God. I will admit that it would disappoint me if u decided not 2 record or tour, but that is ur decision.

    Wishing you peace and joy,
    Stephanie

    Y?
Eye don't get it. The very thought of such deprivation is 2 taxing.

i dont know where you got that rumor, but that will NEVER happen. Prince is music.Prince is entertainment. you can not stop the man, you can not deny the undeniable urge to perform. can you prince? i dont think so. music flows thru him and out to us,it was meant to be.can i get an AMEN.yes sir. as long as he's around,on this planet, i will be buying his music, going to see him perform, and buying what ever else he'll sell me. he cannot stop making music, for himself or us, it's in his blood. now, gimme some more. i need my fix!!!!!

Where do I start, I couldn't even begin to imagine my days, weeks and years without seeing or hearing new music from the one artist that has been with me for over 18 years!! Whatever his reasons are for not wanting to tour or record another album again I'm sure are of personal reasons-- and I respect that to the fullest!! It's just hard to digest that Prince would just let it go, just like that! Not to sound selfish or anything, but the true "fams" who have followed him all of these years, who have played a huge part in his music "career"(just emphasizing the word career), would feel shut out in a sense. Our we not appreciated? I don't know, just having confused mixed feelings.

I know whatever decision Prince makes will be the best decision he could make 4 HIMSELF, not us. He doesn't have to explain or justify to anyone else his reasoning or decisions on something. I hope he will just understand that it will hurt, a pain we will just have to accept. :( All I can say is Thank you Prince for the experience! We "the fams" will have our memories and your music we have already enjoyed all of these years to continue on! Just remember Prince....don't 4 get about "all" of us!! :)

    Peace and blessings
    miko4u

    Prince & NPG,

Eye would't Tour or Make an album until the Heat from the WB(aka)TW cools off. So it doesn't l@@k as if eye'm "Okay" w/them promotioning of Best of Prince CD, however, on the other hand, eye will still focuz on NPGMUSIZCLUB becuz U still have FAMS enjoyin' da site, "It's off da hook":) that's my opinion, keep it flowin', there r some places plp just cannot go, U have the tendency Prince, 2 take Us there. No1 Else can do this but U. U r still a True Gem, & U will always Shine w/N.

On that note...take care Prince & NPG, eye no it's been a ruff ride...but it will get mo' better.Keep the Faith!

    Peace
    Pious

    What purpose would that serve?

Has the truth got that deep into you? Or is this in regards to a legal issue. I would hate to lose your artistic view on music. As it stands I believe you have freed my mind musically and enabled me to make music I never thought possible. On the other hand if your spiritual life is the cause go, do your thang. Jehovah is great and wonderful and will provide you all you need for happiness. As a musician I know you'll record even if no one here's it a musician can never stop making music. I tried it once, but the songs still manifested themselves in my sleep, when walking down the street, and any other time. Question to you? Why do these young cats (musicians/rappers) think they have to be so hard? It is so tired. Before you decide your fate please give us a date so I can make it to Minne to see you get down. I been a friend of yours since you had the white horse and I could never tell you what you've meant to me as a person. A black man with a depth unparallel in music.

    Thank you!!
    Lav

What's going on here? That can't b possible. Prince knows that he can't live without music! Without being able 2 Xpress him self. Since when has this been a topic or option of his? 2 many true artist have left us (us being the fans, the public, the world in search of a way out, a glimps of freedom, if u will). I am 1 who loves the music of older, more xperienced artists'. The world is running out of true blue singer, song writers. We're being invaded by singers with little talent, a pretty face, and 2 young 2 understand the music industry! Take, 4 instance, all the stupid boy and girl pop bands, u've got 2 kidding me if u're serious about them being the future of music!!! I mean, did you know, that it's been said by many a music fan of past artists, that Jimi Hendrix probably couldn't get a record deal 2day! Now we're talking about 1 of the many greatest artist known 2 man. But it's true, sadly, 2day's record contractor isn't looking 4 talent, but a face 2 associate a fake talent with. And who with, but none other than the growing population of teenagers. Coming straight from a fan, I hope that u can relate with my feelings on this issue.

    Peace,
    ThePurpleOne

Surely dis cannot b true???? Plz say it isn't!!! Waiting 4 newz on albumns and especially, concerts is all I look 4ward 2. Should Prince decide not record, etc., then my life will never b the same (incomplete), it's gonna b like having my right arm cut off!!!! I hope it's just speculation from the media and nothing bcomes of it!!! Plz don't go Prince!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May u come 2 ur senses, there r no kings on this earth - only "PRINCE'S" (and that's all I need!!!)

    I love ya baby :o)

    Hi! What's up?
I am so sad if u never to record.
    You're my light.

aaaaah ... that would be the worst day of the rest of my life ... when i saw this on the front page of NPGMC my heart skipped a beat or two .. luckily i know prince loves his craft way to much to just quit .. but if he did, i would feel like some part of my body had been amputated .. prince and more in particular his music has become so much a part of my life, of me, i would be having trouble to find the strength to go on .. prince thought me about love 4 one another, about respect, about how to live the good life .. he completely changed my life in a very positive way .. and if i would only have the chance to meet him in personal and let me talk to him .. i guess all i would be able (and willing) to say is thank you, for everything ..

respect and love to you all,

Please don't tell me it's so. It's his life! But, I hope that this is not the case!

I hope this will never happened. N if it did I think it would have 2 B "in death", cuz Prince has "grooves N grooves up on the shelf". Y'al know what I am talking about, "deep purple concord jamz"!! PEACE N B WILD!!

    just stay home... with us
    teach people from here
you can reach them now, on-line
i would think the years could wear...
    no park, no store
    without chaos
you could do so much more
    more focused
    more direct
this trip wasn't meant for the ego
just an everlasting vibe from the soul
    that will do the trick.
you know you got what we need
    your medicine...your mead.

tours and albums take up time
and that seems to be what's on the line.
greater waves may come standing still.

    cause it guarantees you WILL!)

    Never to record or tour?
What's wrong man? - u LIVE music, I've always heard you say that if you were ever to stop making music you'd die. you've been talking about needing a new fix of music.
The day you stop recording and touring will be a sad sad day indeed. Please don't stop. Your music IS the heartbeat of the ENTIRE New Power Generation community.
    NPG 4 now and 4ever!

If that is what Prince wants, we'll just have 2 accept that, but it would b a tremendous loss to music in general.

    Martin

All I can say is that I would be very saddened but I would respect his decision :-( . After all we all have the right to live our lives as we so choose to.

    Shell

I think that is his right to decide that he no longer wants to record or tour, he has been in the biz for so, long now he may just want to think about Mayte and a family. He will be greatly missed. NO ONE WILL EVER REPLACE HIS MUSIC!

    Cyndi

It would be a sad day on Earth, with so many greats gone, Miles, Jimi, why would one of the true geniuses decide not to share his gift. The cancellation of the celbration tour upset me greatly and I think Prince would better serve his fams and the world, the cause he is fighting for artists' rights, by being out there among those who love him, those who have supported him and those who appreciate him.

Life will be not more as half as beautiful and funky without The Greatest Entertainer On Earth!!!!! I hope this is just a scary Test!!!!! Please tour Germany this year! It was a long time ago I´ve seen ya but Cologne on 27.12.98 and the Aftershow, were the most amazing events that happend to me in my Life!!!!

July fools right? That's like a world without music, 23 years strong has his prolific music been in our lives every year consistently, we need new music from PRINCE now more than ever with the current state of the stale music coming out now days, and as far as the live show goes it must be seen by all 4 years 2 come real musicians playing music is a rarity now and no one puts a show on like PRINCE.

Don't think he COULD do it but if he felt it necessary to answer to something else or found something else more rewarding for himself, so be it. We have plenty to hold on to. I would miss seeing him, hearing new material but all things come to some end eventually.

What a loss it would be to the people. We can only hope that this would never happen!!!!!!!!!!

That is probably the most upsetting possibility I could come up with. Although ultimately I would respect his wishes, I emplore him not to do this. Your work isn't finished, Prince. Not by a long way

    Naaah man!
Why walk away when the world is in such desparate need of a vital artist like you?

Prince to Breathe or Eat or Live?
What is natural for "one" has to be - or sickness sets in.

    Prince,
Are you trying to see if we are all awake out here? Music (touring or recording) is not just what you do it is who you are and if you could not create and express, you would not be who you are. Somethings you can control, other things are determined by God before you were aware that you even had a purpose. So Baby, take a hiatus, marry, produce/promote or just write. You will still be who you are.The music continues and the show goes on.
    true fam since 1978

This would be the baddest news 4 all musiclovers. It's like music will die. Let the funk live on !!!!!!
Only illness would justify this descision !
I hope Prince is well and won't disappoint us .
    Love and be wild !!!!!!

That would totally suck. Homeboy better put out new stuff and continue to tour. I get bored otherwise, not a lot of music to get super excited about nowadays. One of the few artists that keeps it interesting and follows his own voice. I would be highly disappointed.
    Lauren

sounds like a bad idea to me. but why the ?uestion.

That would be the most massive tragedy the music world would ever have to suffer! I've been a Prince fan all my life, and I'm 16 now, have almost his entire collection, listen to it regularly, and am still waiting to see him live. He is truly one of the greatest musical geniuses to ever grace the planet, and for him to never give us great music or shows again would be comparable to a terrible death. DON'T LEAVE, PRINCE! Anthony Pittsburgh, PA

Oh please, please, please never say never. Not that u haven't recorded more music then some do in a lifetime - as fams we always look 4ward 2 the new. Yes, true fams would totally miss your work, ideas, inspiration, talent, love, positivity, your search, etc., etc., etc. I love the old music, but always look forward 2 the new. As 4 tours go - I don't always have the opportunity 2 go 2 concerts - surely u would b missed by all your fams! (love reading about them).

    Peace,
    Joy

don't play w/me that way. i would b devastated. i do realize that all good things must come 2 an end, but i never placed prince in that group.
everlast, that's what u r. frankly, he couldn't. music is as essential 2 him as breathing. he's fought 2 long & 2 hard 4 that well deserved freedom, 2 stop now. the rainbow children is clearly a musical & spiritual declaration of independence. i personally found it refreshing 2 no that my all time fav artist, is on the same spiritual journey as i am. it is always good 2 no that u'r not alone. stop making music, nah, his spirit wouldn't let him. rock on!

    unikgemini

I've always respected a man's right 2 decide whats best 4 him. Theres no 1 other than Prince who can decide when he's done. If he decides 2 make this move I would respect him 4 that and the courage of his own convictions...but I would mourn the loss of some the most creative work we'll never hear. I know he's got a lot left and the well is far from dry.

    MadLoveStop

I can't believe that the daddy of pop would never record anything again. Not 2 mention ever tour again. I just hope this is some sort of joke cuz it would be a devastating thing if he wouldn't record or tour again. Keeping my fingers crossed. What would have happened 2 give such a great artist those ideas?? Now if only i would wake up... ;-(.

Question: Prince....never go on tour or record another album. Hum...lets see....I'm not feeling that one to well. Being an artist myself and being a long time fam member of Prince, (since the For You days) I listen to Prince for inspiritation. I go to the shows to support the art created by a fellow brother in the business. I'm sure that there are millions of family members who can relate when I say, continue to do what you do and the way in which you do it. You are a gift to some of us, you and your music provide an energy, and a message to fellow artist to continue to strive for perfection and to not be mislead by all the goings on in the industry. I'm only a local artist who has a dream of one day being able to share my music with the world, and knowing that there are artist like yourself whose been there and done that who are showing artist like myself through your music and shows that it can be accomplished. So brother don't stop putting out those albums or doing the live shows because you will always have the support and love from your NPG FAMILY MEMBERS.

    With much love and respect

Prince has got the BEST talent of any musician, he can play almost any instrument, sing in every pitch, dance while he's doing it, and do it for a long time. Back in '84 we were mesmorized by the talent when he exploded all over the place, and we've been loving it ever since. It's a true thing that the record business is getting a little too squirrley with it's over-polished and packaged 'teen pop' craze, and people are just going to eat this up faster than their kids did with the whole Pokemon thing. Prince seems to have to much of the stuff in him to give it up like that and not ever perform again. I mean, he's been doing it for 25 years maybe more, he wouldn't be doing it for so long if he didn't like it at least a little bit. Maybe he should retire from the business aspect of it, go on tour half of the year and make a record or two and kick back at home during the other half. But I'm not going to try to sway or change his opinion if he ever decides to give up the guitars, the bass guitars, the keyboards and the heels, whatever he wants to do is his business and from all the thousands of music I've been able to purchase from him already, I think I already have a good stance in it if it should end. If the music that binds us together should cease to be released in the future, I can't complain that much because Prince is free and can do whatever he wants to do. But please, OH PLEASE OH PLEASE don't let it end soon!

    -Jesse Valencia

this has got to be a joke or something. If Prince never record or tour again i will be deeply hurt..honestly. Listening to Prince allowed me appreciate and understand music...heck, the guy introduced me to music. Please don't quit recording or touring unless for health or other serious reasons. We need you to continue making music..the music from most other artists totally is uninspiring...please let this be a joke. I'm a true fan of yours and i've been with you through thick and thin. You are one of the few artist that actually make real music these days...please don't leave your fans because we never left you.

I descovered Prince's music back in 1992 . I basicly grew up with it.... Prince's songs R almost a soudtrack 2 my life... If he ever decided not 2 record anymore I think a part of me would die... And I'm too young 2 die just as he is (way) too young 2 stop recording and touring... His talent is a GOD-given present... Choose not 2 use this talent would be like insulting the creator... Prince will allways respect GOD's will and that's why I thonk he will NEVER be able 2 stop playing music...

Well as a person who would wish only the blessings of the Lord on some one who has given me an awesome amount of pleasure via his music and talents,I would wish Prince well on his retirement.I will also admit that it would probably be one of the most disappointing things for a fan to think of never enjoying the pleasure of going to a concert and rarely sitting during the experience. The first concert I ever went to see was Prince in '82 in Pine Bluff,Ark and it was an eyeopening experience. To say the least I will Always wish U Heaven

I'd have to say that I would be very disappointed, but would understand. Everyone needs time to themselves to study, relax, or spend time with family and friends without the pressure of keeping to a schedule, etc.

If you decide to take a break or stop recording, I only hope you let your fams know how you are doing and maybe continue with the Celebrations in June. I was unable to attend this year, but was hoping to make the journey next year.

Well, I would miss the excitement of waiting for some new tunes, definitely. I would also miss the chance of seeing him in concert. Prince, I would still love U, "whatever U do"!

Music would be like the NBA without Michael Jordan. Prince is the most amazing musician of our time and music would not be the same without the most brilliant artist of our time.
