From a brutha who had the honor of shaking my big ass on stage during the New Orleans show in Jan of 98, let me throw my 2 cents in as a definite digga of the music.

First off, the NPGMC is a tight idea, and I'm happy to be shellin out 7.77 to get my newfunk str8 2 my machine every month. (Brutha woulda paid the hundred bones for the annual, but tuition comes 1st, dig?)

As far as the NPGMC, I wanted to offer a few suggestions that I think would make it even tighter:

1. Freaks from Chicago 2 China would trip if y'all did this here: Yo, P...how about a lil' background info on each of the trax we get to peep every month? Brutha, that would be on FIRE. Since NPGMC is like a little taste of whatchoo got locked away in da Vault, it would b cool if we had a lil' scoop on where the trax came from.
What year? What project was it a part of? Who's back there bangin on the drums? How come bruthas had to wait 15 years to hear it legally, etc.
I mean, let's face....this whole webthang is makin music history.....might as well treat it like what it is....historic.

2. I know plenty o' peeps would diggit if the player told u approximately how long u have before a file finishes downloading....instead of just a percentage of what you've got so far.

3. I ain't gonna lie....when I throw my mouse over an icon, I get nervous if I don't get some text to reassure me that I'm over the right thing. Like, if I have my pointer on top of Trax, let me see that word Trax, so I know I'm not about to click something that sux me in2 the matrix.

4 - Give a brutha a job.....me.

Lovely job so far with the club; a perfect Way 2 communicate and transmit that's far ahead of it's time! Anyway, I've got a question or two:

First of all, what happens if I join the Annual Membership in say, April or something. Does it go from April 2001-April 2002, or still just 2 February. And do We still get the extra tracks from past months if We sign up later??? How does the timing issue Work here?

Also, I have not downloaded everything yet, so this Q might Be answered when, but what are the "February Basic Trax" and "Transmission 1" as opposed 2 the regular trax??? Descriptions upon what is what is not quite clear yet and there's a lot of download time 2 do. Anyway, keep up the Great Work! I'm ready for more of the Cosmic Christ Consciousness Psychedelic stuff! EXODUS outakes and jams, 'Under the Cherry Moon' nstrumental tunes, 'Welcome 2 the Dawn' electric version. We're ready for the next level. Bring it on!

I got really confused about the content of the downloadeable trax. there are some song names but there are general names "premium trax-feb" wich -after downloading- U find out that are the same song trax u downloaded first but in low quality.

Maybe U could xplain more in the title or in the status info: "FebPrem_Whe-Pea-Spl-trax"

or group the type files leaving space between them: + First the files that contain inside multiple low trax

+ Then the high mp3 + the premium mp3

+ Then the high videos + the premium videos

I Just joined the NPGMC last Friday. I nicked the Visa from my father-in-law & got me what I wanted for the last weex: NewFunk! I dropped u a note earlier to Xpress my positiveness on the NPGPlayer, but now I really wanna thank the NPGMC-techs, and most of all: the man himself. The songs r simply great. It's nice that u made the songs available in a higher qualtity. This kind of art has 2 B in perfect qualtity.
That brings me 2 the NPG-AHDIO. Damn!!!! Simply magnificant! Humor, great music, Cool mixing, & a positive msg. This is the way radio's suppozed 2 B. The songs played from Prince's (hopefully) new album r funky! plz release that, however u want 2, but get it out!! The world needs more funk. The only downside with NPGAHDIO is that the sound-quality of the show is simply poor. Can u PLZ do the same with these shows as u did with the mp3's. Double the filesize, or better, triple it ;-). This must B possible with Quicktime, doesn't it? Now that would really get me going! This stuff is so funky, it needs better quality.
R u planning actions 2wards the not-so-great-fams who r sharing the NPGMC-files on Napster? I hope so. How hard is it 2 turn of your sharing 4 these files? I hope u're going 2 do something about it, so that the NPGMC will grow and grow and grow...
Latest suggestions: Put up some liner notes (like in Crystal Ball) 4 each song, and mayB some artwork 2 go with the funk.... mayB u can combine these 2?
Further on the NPGMC is simply heaven 4 all the Funklovers. I hope u will b able 2 amaze the fams in the near future...

I really enjoyed the new trax presented in the NPG AHDIO. HIGH and MY MEDALLION r so incredible funky. Also the instrumentals sound great. The 1st 1 reminds me of Steve Vai or Joe Satriani rockin' on the guitar, the others bring Madhouse back 2 life.

Here r some suggestions 4 improving the club:

- more information about the songs
- a tracklist of the NPG AHDIO
- NPG AHDIO without interruptions
- a rewind, forward & pause button
- full length videos
- complete album/concert

I'm looking forward to the fun! I just joined the club yesterday - my DSL doesn't start until tomorrow so things are moving slow at the moment.

I have a couple suggestions/comments:

I became a member of NPGMC on 2/26 - but if I don't download all the February music before the end of the month can I still download February music in March?

Also, when I place my courser on the icons in the NPGPlayer I don't see any words. It would be helpful to have words pop-up so I know what the icons mean. I think words would help the FAMS as we are familiarizing ourselves with the new software.

I am also wondering if the 2001 Celebration dates could be announced. I would like to buy a discount air ticket --- that way I could spend more on Prince and the NPGMC rather than spending so much money traveling to see Prince!

- Will prince & the npg b touring europe soon & when (this year, hopefully)?
- Will the Exodus NPG Live Rehearsal b sent 2 members as a cd?
- Will a new, (traditionally distributed) album b released (the much anticipated „high“), and when?

This experience is well worth the hard work. Thank you Prince for sharing your dreams. Thank you NPG for your hard work. I am so happy to finally celebrate Valentines Day. This is an early birthday present for me.

The new music is great. I think having a music club was a wonderful idea. The only improvement I can suggest is an easier download process for new users like me. So, do we get membership cards or T-shirts? I am loving everything and can't wait for more.

Eye just digested February's serving of Premium Funk and the NPGMC was definitely well worth the w8. Congratulationz! Now eye know y it's called NPG AHDIO - eye haven't heard anything that refreshing on U.S. radio since NPG took control of KMOJ back in '89. And, When Eye Lay My Hands On U - As far as eye'm concerned, eye already got my $100 worth right there. These jelliez r SWEET! And therein lies the problem.

No 1 should b dnied the eargasm of When Eye Lay My Hands On U. Music should b free, like air. And eye don't mean free in a $ $en$e, eye mean free as in accessible. Eye am one of the lucky ones. Eye know it. Eye'm having a 1derful time playing in this funky playground, but the part of me that blieves in love4oneanother feels 4 my purple brotherz and sisterz who can't come out and play - the non-U.S. residents, the MAC users, people without credit cards, people without computers at home, people without computer skillz, etc. The NPG's strength is its unity. We CAN change the world but not when the conditions xclude half of it.

So, this is my suggestion: Each month's trax, vid trax and NPG AHDIO Show should b offered 4 sale as an nhanced CD (like Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic) thru 1800NEWFUNK. The price would dpend on one's membership. 4 instance, $5 4 Premium members, $15 4 Basic members and $30 4 non members. Eye don't know if this would b cost effective or not and eye just picked the numbers randomly, but eye do know that this way more people would b able 2 join in the fun(k); and eye would personally much rather give $ directly 2 Prince each month 4 an authorized CD, as the cre8or of the contents of that CD, than use all that $ 2 buy a CD burner.

B-ing a member of the NPGMC is a privilege and it's an honor eye do not take lightly. However, eye'm slightly worried that we're preaching 2 the choir here. Members, such as myself, already know and blieve in the talent with which God has blessed Prince. But, what about that 14 year old who doesn't even know who Prince is? Prince could b making the most glorious sound over here but like some1 said - like that tree in the 4est, if no 1's around when it goes down, will it astound?

Eye know that un4tun8ly ez 2 use oftentimes equals ez 2 ABuse. As the member ship sets sail, braving the Pira Sea, remember that there will always b piranha looking 4 a free meal...but 4 every piranha, Prince, there's a dolphin like me who'll rally around u and keep u afloat. Though I've never seen my comments posted, here goes one more:

One fam suggested a bimonthly CD we could purchase of all the trax on the club (including the Premium extras.) GREAT idea! Please do it!! That way, you could avoid the Napster issue, Fams could get excellent quality trax (which the sound quality should be excellent with a premium membership anyway.)

If you're worried about people not buying Premium memberships just because the CDs are available, just make them available for purchase for the Premium memberships. That way, you can leave it up to the fams. If they want the trax on CD, they will become a Premium member. That is fair. Please do this!!!! I love collecting Prince music. It won't be the same without these trax available on pressed CDs. Please!!!!

I am writing to congratulate you on the opening of the NPG Music Club--it's been a long time coming! I am also writing to ask if at any point in the future will you bve accepting checks or money orders for the subscriptions? I am a longtime fam, anxious as anyone to play in the music club yet, I do not have a credit card because I am paying off my debts and will soon be cancelling them all. For the fams out there who do not have credit cards, will there be hope for us as well? And also, with the opening of the club, does this mean that Prince will no longer release music in the more "conventional" formats (i.e. your local music store)?

this is your numer one fan from the UK,and I have just joined for the premium membership. I love the fact that the club exists as it brings all your adoring fans together. It is a very innovative approach for the interaction between the artist (being u) and the fan(ATIC!) which I truly am. I think that the download manager page should have the song/video name in the file title. A very important thing I think is that all of us who join this wonderful club are already adoring fams and therefore already own a copy of many of the songs available as bootlegs, so I wreckon that u should put out some of the RAREST and most UNheard material u have in your vaults, rather than the songs we already have. In terms of the videotrax, I think that live footage from performances which we would struggle to get a copy of would be much appreciated by all of us (such as the 1983 performance of Electric Intercourse at First Avenue...one of my favourites!)

A monthly CD delivered 2 the door would have been my preference as we don't all like 2 hear our music thru a computer. And sometimes wish 2 listen on the move tho. :)

My MAIN suggestion above any would b not just 2 cater 2 the "computer elite" amongst the "Fams". Currently U have Ppl who after supporting Prince music 4 over 20 years R now missing out on his music 4 the 1st time, as their computers do not meet the rather high necessary specifications!

I myself meet them (JUST!), and am Xperiencing several problems with the NPGMC. Break outs in sound as my computer tries 2 run the NPGMC visually, on both "Ahdio show" and "trax". Trying 2 view the videos crashes my computer etc.

This is such a shame as it is only the site's complex visual design that makes MP3s, audiostreams and videos unavailable 2 those whose computers could deal with such applications usually. Altho I understand the wish 2 have an attractive site, music is what it's all about right? :)

A RealPlayer (4 Xample), video file and audio stream of "The Ahdio Show" etc would make them available 2 all!

And ultimately lead 2 more subscriptions...

Please try 2 make the music accessible 2 more Ppl, as from what I'm hearing (as always!) it needs 2 b heard! :)

Ultimately I will continue 2 support Prince's endeavours regardless... even if i have 2 eventually get a new computer 2 do so! :D

- The high quality tracks are great! They sound SOOO much better! Thanks!
- When downloading the high quality tracks, I noticed that if I tried to download more than four tracks, the fifth track never ends up being downloaded.
- Please change the download mechanic to download directly to the final file location. Right now it is downloading to a temporary file, and moved to a permanent location. This is a huge waste of CPU cycles and disk access. I do many different things on my machine at once, and having it slow down to move files around is a pain.
- Please allow me to select my own download locations. Right now the files download straight into the same directory as the application. I keep my applications and mp3s on separate file system partitions, and moving them out of the default location in with my other mp3s is inconveinient.
- How about a Linux version of the club? I know that it would not be able to use the Quicktime stuff, but those files could instead be offered in the DiVX format, an open format that is better than Quicktime's version of MPEG4 anyway. Given the emphasis on freedom in the club, it is a real shame that I can only use it on a proprietary, closed source OS.
- All in all, the club is great! Thank you so much for giving me a better option than dealing with those scumbags at the record companies!

My one request is to allow controls on the NPG music player to fast forward or rewind to different sections during the ahdio show, and a time elapsed display. Last night listening to it I had to stop right as Rhonda Smith was being introduced. I'd like to start next time by just fast forwarding to that point.

I really feel like I'm missing out by not being allowed any access to Rave Special Edition (I want to BUY it) - is it fair to those Fams who are in the same situation as me (after all the advertisment for it has been on NPGONLINE for so long and now it is only avaliable to a selected few.) Its not that i dont want to commit to a years membership, Id love to but its just not possible.

I look forward to seeing what March has got instore for me.

(Side note: Prince, as a black man, you've made this young lady very very proud. You continue to show your fellow man that anything, and I mean anything, can be achieved with hard work, talent and perseverance. You keep the idea of faith and pride a reality to us all. As for what is on there, the tracks are great, the radio program is GREAT! It was nice hearing new music and getting it straight from the music club. The videos are also cool and I can't wait for the remix-making option to be added to the site! I also can't wait for my Special Edition copy of Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic, after hearing the samples that were on NPGOnlineltd, my mouth is watering to hear more!

I have a few requests for the site:
-Live shows!! Prince is one of the best live performers, yet no live album is out there!! I ask if Prince would select his favorite or best shows from each tour and put them up from time to time on NPGMC!! He has had a great career, worked with some great musicians and had so many great concerts, its hard to imagine that those concerts would fade away without some type of release. Not to mention that I, myself, who is a newer fan would have LOVED to have seen and heard the Lovesexy or Sign O The Times tour will never get the chance to see it because those tours have come and gone.

-Shelved albums. Perhaps putting up full albums from time to time, even if some of the songs have been released...it would be nice to hear an album that Prince didn't feel was a strong one or whatever other reason the album was shelved for. Fans can decide for themselves if Prince was right on not to release it or the opposite.

-Projects of things to come. Prince fans like surprises and just like the AHDIO show gave fans a pick or a listen of the upcoming music like High and My Medallion, why not have a sampler or tracks that Prince plans to release sometime :)

-Videos? I think this is a great outlet for all types of media and since there was no release for the Crystal Ball video collection, why not pop a few on NPGMC?

here r my 2 suggestions for improving the npgmc:

- start pressing the songs from the club to CDs so that we can buy them.

- please post a bit more information on how exactly the VIPseating and aftershow passes work: it seems that many people are hesitant to buy the permium membership due to slightly unclear descriptions of what you get. What I mean is; Does it gaurantee passes to any aftershow anywhere in the world or just in your hometown? Does it gaurantee prefered seating at any concert that he performs or just those in your home town? What if Prince does not play anywhere near where you live in 1 year: does the pass then extend to whenever Prince does play in my area? If Prince doesn't play anywhere near me within the year, isn't it kind of a waste to join for those privillages if I cannot ever use them.

I hope that you understand where I am coming from, and I also hope that you have been able to take something usefull out of all that jabbering :)

Your music has given me a great amount of joy for about 17 years now - I'd hate to have that end simply because of how you distribute music. Please make CD's still available (even if only through 1800NEWFUNK) otherwise I might miss out. Plus, I love having official CD's with professionally produced booklets - to me it all adds to the music experience.

Also, MP3's (no matter how high a quality) simply do not match CD quality sound. I would actually rather pay MORE for a CD than LESS for an MP3. I'd pay upwards of $20 for a professionally produced CD, artwork, and packaging if that were made available. Also, a lot of people have been talking about all this "live" stuff. I personally do not own any live material from ANYONE, I don't agree with that whole concept.

Well, hopefully you don't go exclusively to MP3's. I would like to continue this 17 year following for as long as I can . . .

Upon joining, I found the setup of the player to be a bit troublesome -- it didn't work at first and I had to uninstall both it and the QuickTime update and try again. For whatever reason, it was okay the second time. Once I got the player working, it still took me a little while to figure everything out (how to use the player; where/what to download; where the files were being saved on my hard drive, etc.). Sending a detailed "Read Me" file with the download of the player would make this a non-issue for future club members and I strongly suggest that you compile one.

Once everything was squared away and I actually began to check out the offerings, I was *VERY* pleased with the songs!!! (Although the bit rate of the files should be increased quite a bit.) "Peace" and "Splash" are great and I am happy to finally have the full version of each. ("Splash" *really* makes me pine for that Roadhouse Garden album, though. Please move this "to the *front* burner" again soon!) The free track, "When Eye Lay My Hands On U," is very simply a new PRINCE classic -- 'nuff said!!!

My favorite thing is the "NPG Ahdio" transmission. I was really feeling WNPG 77.7 radio. I sure *WISH* I could pick up this station in my car. ;-) The best part of it was hearing the samples from the new unreleased songs: "High," "My Medallion" and "Golden Parachute." All three of these cuts sound hella tight!!! In fact, I used my mini disc player to edit down the transmission to just the samples and placed them along side "U Make My Sun Shine," "When Will We B Paid?," "Underneath The Cream," "The Daisy Chain (sample)" and "When Eye Lay My Hands On U." This "album" configuration knocks me on my ass!!! Why don't you have a new cd in the shops? *THIS* is the album "the industry most fears." In fact, now that the club has been successfully launched, please focus your attention on releasing a new cd. How about using a Paisley Transmissions post to let us know when we can expect it. (Check out prince.org on this subject...the fams are going into withdrawal. I mean, we haven't been this long without a new album since 1983. Please end our suffering. LOL!)

To make a long post longer: I just want to say CONGRATULATIONS!!! The NPGMC is a success already and is only going to get better and better. I look forward to the upgraded software and increased quality mp3s so that the music to come can be enjoyed to the fullest! You have taken everything to the next level and I am proud of you. Keep doin' what you're doin' -- and get a new studio album in stores!!! :-)

On the downside, getting started was 2 complicated. Altho' I had no problems, I know lots of people that did. And the quicker that Mac OS version comes along the better.

On the +tive side, I have no doubt that this is the future of music distribution. It may not completely phase out retailers and major record companies, but it gives us the most important things - choice 4 the consumer and maximum reward 4 the artist.

At the end of the day, people will only pay the subscription fee if the content is good - mo' better jams = happier fams.

I've seen the future and it's (potentially) good.

I'm prity impressed with what the NPGMC has to offer, however I have a couple of reservations. They both stem from the fact that I am A Non-US resident (Irish in fact).

1. Using paypal for payment is quite awkward if you do not have an account set up with them already as you have to wait until your next monthly statement for a confirmation code. This is in effect stopping me from joining your club until next month.

2. Should I pay for the premium subscription? The main things that would entice me to do so is the prospect of preferred seating and after party passes but I have no idea if you will be touring Europe within the year. If you were to announce some concert dates and maybe let us know where you intend going this year it may make up a lot of peoples minds.

Other than that the quality of what i have seen are excellent. When I Lay My Hands On U is superb and it bodes well for whatever album you have coming up next :)

Eventhough I love the idea behind the NPG Music Club I wondered if it will still be possible to buy albums at the CD stores. I just love to walk around there and watch and touch different CD's and then buy one and take it home in a plastic bag, you know what I mean?

New albums of Prince and the NPG should be for sale in stores as well, like the Crystal Ball or like Rave.

Good luck with the NPG Music Club project and I hope this won't make other ways of buying the funky music impossible.

My suggestion is that you make sure that the files DO NOT appear on Napster. I think that people putting the files on Napster is 100% against what the club stands for and should not be tolerated.

Please make sure that Napster complies with your ownership of the tracks and bans anyone trading NPGMC tracks.
