Once again, Prince has shown all of his detractors why he is in many critics (and fans!) minds the greatest musician and live performer of his generation. I was fortunate enough to catch almost the entire soundcheck, which was terrific. Prince's sense of humor really came through, and I was ecstatic to hear old gems like Power Fantastic live for the first time. The show itself was amazing, with the focus back on the music, not on flashy costumes, sets, etc. Other artists should learn from the example that Prince and U2 have set of late that the music is what matters, not the spectacle. I was left wondering, if Prince can still pull off those splits...!! The real treat of the evening was the aftershow at the World...SIMPLY AMAZING!!! AWE INSPIRING!! I have NEVER heard anyone (including Prince) play the guitar like he did when he opened the aftershow with a scathing version of Joy In Repetition!! To hear that song, along with The Ballad of Dorothy Parker, and to see the Grandfather of Funk George Clinton on stage with Prince, was almost too much for me to handle!! I had already lost my voice by the end of the Avery Fisher show, but Prince, I was the funky little white boy dead center right in front at the aftershow...THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!! I was lucky enough to meet Prince in 1994 after his Love Experience show at the Palladium, but this topped that show and every other Prince performance I have ever seen...hands down!! I even got one of the man's picks...!! I am 32, and Prince, you have supplied the soundtrack to my life for over 20 years...Thank you again for giving so much of yourself, for all of these years. New York appreciated the show you gave us, especially given the events of the last several months. One last question...when are we going to see a career spanning live set from you already?!? lol You KNOW we'll all buy it, no matter what the cost!!
Please release this tour on DVD and get on Warner Brothers to start releasing your old concerts on DVD...Sign O The Times and the Syracuse show would be a fine place to start! Thank you and peace to you and your lovely new partner! ~tieboyone

I don't Know where to begin,Prince gave more of himself than any big name artist of his stature.I was in the first row at the sound check and show, I heard every note. You and N.P.G. are fantastic! As a member of the club we were truly treated like royalty! I play keyboards so i was exicited to hear Prince play them, and play he did! he let a fan from the audience bring his guitar on stage and play with him, amazing! At one point in the show he allowed another fam onstge for answering correctly on weather he was a leader or a follower.PRINCE played old school, selections from his latest masterpieces, and songs he had said he would not play earlier, like purple rain. The greatest moment for me was when he was doing family name and slowly began yo approach me! he extended his hand and i did likewise.I was actually shaking his hand! What a moment for me. he then asked me my family name. i gave my nickname (Silverhands) instead of my real name(Clayton) the name he actually uses in the song.Somehow i think i should have given my real name. anyway he asked if he could give me a new name,i nodded yes and with that he said we'll call you outlaw! I have no Idea why u gave me the name, but like him my band dosen't play comercial radio Ga Ga! we only play the funk and we keep it real, maybe that makes me an Outlaw! The after party was a blast too! I met Alicia Keys before she went on we were singing the old school with Prince from our tables.(she was two tables away!) Larry Graham was awasome! I saw him as he was leaving and ask if he would please take a picture with me, to my surprise he said yes, he and his lovely wife Tina posed for a picture and my wife snaped the shot.It was truly a nite to remember.I will see u again Prince don't forget me,I was the guy in the Silversuit! one day i will be in your band.Dreams become the life u lead. peace&luv Clayton(Out-law)

I've been a Prince fan since the beginning and have seen him perform on numerous tours and I must say the man just keeps getting better and better. Thanks to the NPG music club the seats for the NYC show were awesome and the sound check was something I could only have dreamed of a few years ago. As I've said, I've seen Prince play many, many times but this time I noticed a different Prince. He just seemed a happier and more content person. He made eye contact with the crowd, spoke, joked, dissed, smiled and drew everyone in. At one point he asked us how we liked the new Prince and I think we all were in overwhelming agreement that we loved it. This is one show that you can expect to get up and jam, dance your butt off, and then be swept off your feet by the man's incredible vocal and musical talent. I can honestly say this show has left me feeling inspired both musically and spiritually. Thanks Prince. (p.s. you're still sexy even without the cussing!)

One Nite Alone with Prince, spent with friends... A Review
Tuesday April 9, 2002 Avery Fisher Hall New York, New York - I arrived at
the concert venue around 12:30 - 1:00 PM. As soon as I left the subway and
hit street level I made a call to one of my good friends in New Power NY
that I knew was probably already on line. He and I remained chatting until
I met him where he was standing in line with the rest of the Prince fans.
The concert's sound check was not scheduled to start for another 5 hours but
many fans in preparation of avoiding the lines, due to the general admission
seating rule had gotten to the venue early. A few fans had arrived as early
as 8 o'clock in hopes of being the first in, and so increasing their chances
of getting the front rows. Standing in line with me were Zaheer Ali
(NwPrSoul) and Richard Krihelli both core New Power New York (also known as
NPNY) members, later that afternoon we were joined by Derek Kelly (the NPNY
mailing list moderator/co founder.)
The four of us spent our time in the line catching up with each other. We
are all good friends but after last year's celebration had become even
closer. I had not seen the guys in over 4 months and was glad to be in
their company. The weather forecasters had been right. It did rain that
day. Through it and the bangs of hungry we stuck it through till 5:30 PM
when they started to let us into the concert hall, 10 at a time. I am happy
to report we only had one incident of cutting that was easily resolved by
the Lincoln Center security team.
Sam, Chris and the staff of Susan Blond (Prince's
Public Relations firm) were there to sign us in and give us our NPG Music
Club members' laminates. The laminates gave us exclusive access to the
concert's sound check and free admission to the party afterward held at a
separate location.
After we had signed in and began to ascend to the second level, we could
hear slight traces of music being played from behind the doors of the main
concert hall. The ushers lined us up into columns of 4 in front of the
doors. Security had hoped to honor the list started outside on the line but
seeing so many people in front of them the ushers opened the doors
prematurely. This caused a sudden stampede of members down the two main
aisles. Prince at one point called out to us from the stage to slow down.
My friends and I were able to get the 4th and 5th rows main orchestra,
center of the stage. Once we were all seated Prince preceded to tell us a
story about a concert he had in Japan a few years back where he had placed
tambourines underneath all the audience seats and the concertgoers leaving
them where they found them, when they left. This little story was supposed
to teach us to respect things that are not ours.
Prince was in rare form during the entire sound check. Cracking jokes on
late arrivers and allowing one fan to actually get on stage and jam with him
and the NPG for a moment. At one point he told us of a story of how at 17 he
remembers visiting the city with his older sister and being smacked in back
of the head for continuing to stare up at the skyscrapers.
New Yorkers loves Maceo Parker! As soon as Prince introduced him to the
crowd, they went wild. Many of us were only introduced to Maceo and his
work through his recordings and performances with Prince. Maceo is a
legendary performer. He has worked with as James Brown and most recently
Ani DiFranco. With him in the NPG Hornz section for the night were Greg
Boyer (trombonist from James Brown and Funkadelic/Parliament) and Candy
Dulfer (alto saxophonist, best known for her appearance in the "Party Man"
video for the Warner Bros. movie Batman. Prince did the entire soundtrack
for that movie.) On keyboards was Renato Neto (of Shelia E.'s Etrain), with
John Blackwell on drums and percussions and Rhonda Smith on bass and
background vocals.
The sound check lasted for about 2 hours ending with Prince telling the
audience that he wished he could just stay and jam with us, but that he
would see us again in 45 minutes and to sit back.
I believe many concertgoers had been looking to enjoy a night of the
classics. This was not a greatest hits show. Prince with the One Nite
Alone Tour is attempting to show the masses a new side to him. One that is
more mature and not just shouting how much of a sexy MF he is, Jazz-fusion
fans will enjoy this performance. Lovers of classic R&B and its restoration
now debuted Neoclassic Soul will too. Amazingly with only a couple of days
notice, Prince was able to sell out Avery Fisher Hall's 2738 seats.
I am not good at keeping tabs on set listings but I will give you a few of
my favorite highlights of the performance. The concert started off as The
Rainbow Children (Prince's most recent commercial release) with Prince
giving a narrative in a funky ominous tongue box voice. Critics have praised
him for his work on The Rainbow Children saying it's probably his best
commercial recording released in over a decade!
With songs like "The Rainbow Children", "Family Name", "1+1=1=3", "Mellow",
"Cooler side of the pillow", "Pass the Peas", "Roller coaster of Love" and a
cover from Ms. E. Badu, this show had a bit of everything for everyone.
Prince also continued his recent musings in respects to Abraham Lincoln and
him before and in the beginning of his presidential term not fully
supporting the abolish movement that prompted the South's succession and the
Civil War to erupt here in the United States in the early 1860s. He also
touched on the topic of big corporations owning and controlling what is
heard on the local radio stations. This was not a surprise to longtime fans
of his. Prince has always used his concerts to expand on the various
platforms he has supported during the years.
As the show came to an end Prince slowed it down by doing a medley on the
piano of some of his more mellower hits. I must briefly mention that Q-Tip
(formerly of Tribe Called Quest) did grace the stage for a moment. It
seemed as if he was overwhelmed by the music so much that he could not catch
a beat. Two times he attempted to start "Bonita Apple Baum" but after
noticing himself using profanity, a big Prince no, no he stopped his
attempts and just gave Prince some praise for the inspirational chats the
two of them have had in the past.
Larry and Tina Graham were in attendance and when Larry and she got on stage
at first the security at Lincoln Center attempted to escort them off. After
Greg Boyer informed them that it was okay Prince preceded to pay the funk
icon homage.
The concert ended with AnnaStesia a song Prince said he felt was perfect for
our troubled times. The after party was held at The World nightclub (part of
the WWF themed restaurant complex in Time Square). We rushed out the venue
to get Time Square. By the time we got there the line was already halfway
down the block. Some fans later reported it being around the corner. The
security was not really sure how to handle all of us. We did not get into
the club till passed 1:00 A.M. in the morning. The concert had ended at
11:30 PM. Once in we waited another hour or so for the NPG roadies to setup
the stage for the performers. When Prince and the NPG finally came on stage
he apologized for making us wait so long and promised to make it up to us
and he did! Prince and guest performers such as Musiq Soulchild, ?uestLove
of the Roots, George Clinton, Doug E. Fresh and Alicia Keys gave us an
additional two plus hours of non-stop funk.
Alicia was absolutely adorable as she sang while Prince played "How Come U
Don't Call Me Anymore?" She was so excited that she could not accompany him
playing the song on the organs, she just sang while Prince played for her.
In between her rendition she hugged and kissed Prince causing him to almost
at times look as if he was going blush.
Musiq, dueled with Candy Dulfer while he scatted and she played her funky
saxophone. Doug E, pumped up the crowd and then proceeded to duel with John
Blackwell while he was on the drums. Alicia finished her rendition, to then
play with Renato in a funky version of the "Ballad of Dorothy Parker."
The after party ended around 4:30 AM with many fans even though they had
hurting feet and sleep in they're eyes being very happy. I had to go to
work later on that day so I headed to the subway and onwards to home.
Falling into my bed a little after 6:00 A.M. with a KoolAid smile on my face
still on my natural high after experiencing the best concert of Prince or
any other artist in all my 23 years of life. I almost can't wait till June
and this year's Celebration to see him and the NPG again.

first off the soundcheck was amazing, no other fans of any artist will ever get this close seeing some group play the local coliseum with 70,000 fans in the nose bleeds, we were waiting in line in side and heard music playing, i was like oh crud were missing this thing, i met a nice couple from philly, peace to ya'll, anyways i get inside p is playing some jazzy stuff at the keyboards, the stage set up was real nice, he played the ride, calhounn sq and some other things, very funny and joking through the whole sounnd check, he is really opening up, i just wanna say i foolishly had concerns over how the show was going to be after hearing the setlist from the first couple of gigs, i want to say to anyone out there that if u have similar feelings to just ignore them, i can honestly say i didnt miss the hits, the songs were so well presented, the band was tight, the lighting was awesome, the crowd was sick, prince was in such high spirits, he played from 8.10pm till 11.10pm, during short interludes the crowd would chant we want prince,we want prince, it was amazing, it was so good to see larry and tina, they looked great, and to agree with prince larry did where that suit, i have to say that this show was spiritual, rocky, funky ,jazzy, and political, the show ended with the crowd in verbal union chanting RISEUP,RISEUP admist a chilling version of anna stesia, it was a sight to behold, i can say without bias that prince is the single most self contained musical entity around, sell your furniture to see this show if u must,

Considering I'd never seen Prince perform before, I think the name of the place for the after party was perfect because this meant the world to me. I have been trying for years to see Prince in concert but EVERY little thing would happen from losing money at the train station on the way to get the tickets to getting flat tires and missing the show to tickets being sold out before I could get to the window. So this time was no different. I went and found out where the afterparty was going to take place and got there while the concert had been going on for about an hour. I managed to make it in and because I'd shared my stories of not seeing him with other fam members that joined me in line after the concert, we watched to see what would happen and if he were actually going to perform. I couldn't believe it when HE walked onto the stage. Lights were off and it was just his silhoette against the backdrop of blue stared lighting behind him, heavenly :) I was there and not only was I there, I was in the front 3 ft. away from the stage. He covered his face as rudely flashes went off in his face before he could focus in the lights that had just been turned on. But, he handled that with an announcement to the guards to handle anyone else that flashed. He smoothly took us into Joy In Repetition a song that my girl April had been requesting him to play at other concerts she'd been to. I was thrilled. I told myself I wasn't going to scream but found myself screaming at just the sight of a roadie with his guitar. So you know what happened when I saw Him and he began to play....A dream came true. And it only got better as George Clinton joined him on stage and then Dougie Fresh and then Musiq Soulchild and then Alicia Keys. She wanted him to sing with her as she sang How Come You Don't Call Me but you know him with that it's your stage attitude when it's your time to shine (I love that about him) He just accompanied her on the piano and he made a wide eyed surprised face as she hugged him from behind while he was sitting at the keys, that made us laugh. But, Alicia did a good job, I was impressed having had listened to her for the first time sing this song. The fam was singing it the way Prince did on the album so she still got her duet. There were some major highlights for me like when Dougie Fresh at different times during the show first battled Candy with the beatbox 'vs' the sax. It was a draw but when he tried to battle John Blackwell, watch out, even Prince backed up and it was close for a minute but Blackwell laid it on Dougie and there was nothing he could do. It was Great!!! Then when Prince sang Dorothy Parker, he stopped singing before the end of the song and walked away from the keys, he began to walk to the other side of the stage and I'd continued to sing the song and about 3 other people joined in. Before he got off the stage he backed up with his ear to us and then grabbed the mike and brought it over to us (stage left) and he conducted us as we finished the song. It was such a beautiful and fun moment. I couldn't believe how close we were and how cool he was. I get chills going over the whole thing in my mind and every time I retell the story. Thank you Prince/Billy for coming back to NY so that a sista'fam from Jersey City could get the chance 2 C U!!! Luv U NPG Keep up alll the goood work. This team is a world pleasa' :) The show ended about 4 a.m. Their encore song was the Everlasting now. I was so hyped up I took the Path back home got there about 5:45 a.m. took a 45 min. nap and got up to have my children in school and be to work by 9 a.m. People wondered where the energy to stay awake came from. Then I told them how long Prince actually performed from the concert on and with his energy transfered to me through that performance....I was fine until about 10pm that night.

This was the most astounding concert. Prince, u were unbelievable - and 3 hours! Ur energy while performing is clearly bliss realized, as always, but in particular on the 9th . I have seen all the show u have staged in NY since 1984 and this rivaled the Purple Rain Concert. I have never been at one of ur shows where there was so much generosity...and such an intimate vibe. The refreshing quality a smaller venue moved my experience from spectator to an enveloped part of the whole. Sometime It Snows In April...BEAUTY. The encores, left me speechless. My friend turned to me and said -I have never had an experience at a concert like this before - and he has seen the greats, like the Stones in the 70's. By the way he is joining the club. It was as if the show tapped into my consciousness, the finale was one of my favorite songs ever - Anna Stesia! I got goose bumps. I hope we were able to give u some positive energy back, and maybe we did, I have never seen u smile so much at a performance.
Oh please do this style of concert again, I WANT MORE :) . Plus, the ability to go to sound check - it had a "pinch me I think I'm dreaming" feel, as if I was in some parallel universe 'cause this was not a usual experience. Thank u for that. I wish I had been able to arrive earlier to see the whole thing.
I have been singing ever since, thank you for filling me with light.

Much praise is
due to Prince

for their
fabulous
per4mances this
Tuesday night in
NYC. The
concert was
unbelievably
excellent. "One
Night Alone"
satisfied and
surpassed any
of my
preconceptions
about the
incredible man
himself. That
was probably
the only Prince
concert I will
ever be able to
attend- A
dream come
true 4 me,
undeniably one
of the best
nights of my
entire life!!
Maceo was
rockin' like u
can't blieve,
Blackwell
shook the roof,
and Prince was
indescribably
amazing.
Looking so
good and
singing so fine,
Prince surely
blew my mind! I
was impressed
with his laid
back attitude at
the sound
check, I was
able to give him
a picture that I
made with my
own words of
praise written
on it. All I ever
wanted to say
to the "pretty
man" is on that
paper. If you're
reading, Prince,
I hope u know
my soul is still
singing from
Tuesday night.
U and the NPG
have truly
touched my life.
"One Night
Alone" is an
experience like
no other-keep
on Jammin!!!!!
P.S.
I have to say, I can't contain my joy in recalling Tuesday's concert. I
was loving all the new music, it's different, but it still strikes a chord
that makes the soul vibrate. I like the jazzy sound, it's so deep and I
feel it really fills your whole body with the music. I was surprised
and so pleased to hear "I could drink a case of you" from Prince's
lips, one of my favorite songs so tenderly rendered. "Anastesia"
was intense, and who didn't cry at "Purple Rain"? The older
favorites definitely kept the house bumpin': "When you were mine",
"Take me with you", "Diamonds and Pearls" and "Raspberry Beret"
all had me nearly floating with such ecstacy!! But I am also really
digging Prince's new sound. Unbelievable how so much can
come out of just one person. I don't even know how else to
express the experience of "One Night Alone". All I know that my
heart and my soul are still flying so high, Prince and the NPG will
be able to see them next to the moon when they get back to
Minneapolis!

I've seen Prince & NPG only once before, nearly 10 years ago in Sydney Australia on the Diamonds & Pearls tour. Sadly he's never been back since. That show has stayed with me as pretty much the best I've ever seen - certainly I cannot remember enjoying one as much. I never thought I'd get the opportunity to see him again, but by happy coincidence I was able to catch the NYC gig last Tuesday. And boy am I glad I did.
Although I've never stopped loving his music, he had kind of dropped from my radar in recent years. This show, which was by turns brutal in its funk attack and then tender with its solo piano ballads (my favorite part) was nothing less than astonishing & inspirational. But most importantly, it reminded me of why I loved Prince & his music so much in the first place.
Of course there's the near ridiculous level of professional musicianship & virtuosity of everyone on stage (and Prince, just how many 'voices' do you actually have ????), the wonderful songs, the beguiling staging - but what really struck me was his drive & need for reinvention, which I suppose is what makes his music so compelling in the first place. I'm not a he-can-do-no-wrong fan - not everything he does touches me, but when it does, oh boy!
It got me thinking that he's the only artist - only mainstream artist certainly - that makes you 'work' for your pleasure. Part of the effort, and ultimately the rewarding joy, is sifting through that prodigious output to find those songs that hit home to you personally. For me, many of those songs made an appearance at Avery Fischer Hall - "Condition of the heart", "Sometimes it snows in April", "Adore", "Raspberry Beret"...all wonderful, these & many more. And as Prince was at pains to point out, it's real music by real musicians for real people. I agree, it was something very special indeed.
One final point I'd like to make - I remember from my first Prince concert experience being really surprised at how much his sense of humor came across on stage, as I think so often it gets lost on the records, or at least overshadowed. Thankfully it was very much in evidence again at NYC, as he interacted with the audience with a casual & humorous ease - indeed it is better to give than receive in most cases, but not when it involves giving up a front row seat to the brother at the back!
Prince, if you do read this, I'd just like to say sincere thanks for the pleasure your music has given me over the years, and for two very special concerts. More power to you, and hope to catch you again one day.

All hail the Prince! I must say to everyone who missed this show, too bad for
you. PRINCE ROCKED IT! It was a lucky time for me, not only did I get my seat
(a good seat and I came alone ) at the last minute, but also got to hook up
with some people from the club and I got in the after party. I am joining the
club. I can't consider myself a "real Fan" if I don't. I can't decide which
one I looked better. Alicia Keys, Musiq Soulchild and Doug E. Fresh ( and yes
Doug, the best zodiac sign is PISCES) -you guys were amazing. Prince and the
band, I would like to say " Thank You" for blessing NYC with your presence.
It's always a pleasure to have you here especially in our time of crisis. We
needed the music (real music) to get our minds off all the drama. PLEASE,
come again, your always welcome!

Prince and the NPG were authentic and new and we all embraced the change just like Prince talked about, "change is good." AMEN!!! i felt as if my mind was opened as we listened to Princes newest musical creations. absolutely beautiful, all of them.
the music and musicians were a rainbow and we were the children playing after a long hard rain.:) the after party was an unexpected treat for me and got to be just a few feet away from the beautiful Prince. to me he feels like a friend, warm and caring and kind.

April 9. The sound check that only the NPG members got to see was very fun.
One guy got to play his guitar while the band and Prince played back-up for
this dude. Prince was crakin' jokes just making us all feel relaxed. It
was very personal this sound check. Anyway about eight o'clock every body
else came in and the concert began. Prince did some songs from the Rainbow
children Album and later on did some oldies but goodies on the synth by
himself. It was a good concert, but the after party, OWW LAWD! that was a
treat. NPG members got in Free with their Laminated passes and boy did it
get funky in their. Prince rock hard with the help of Musiq, Alicia Keys,
Doug E Fresh, And George Clinton. I had a blast. Good God!

Just returned to the State De and a state of reality. I witnessed an unbelievable event this eve in NYC.
Prince put it down and let it all hang out from soundcheck to the end of the show and end of Aftershow. I may be extra enthusiastic because I was pulled onstage, sat on cushy pillows and got my bootleg Prince tshirt dissed! It was all good and all fun though as HE looked me straight in the eye as he ripped a mean and really really sweet guitar part just for me twice! After the song was done I thanked him and he asked if I was OK. It was dark and I nearly broke my neck getttin off stage by stepping down where I thought the steps were. I was Wrong and two security guards caught me before I crashed to the floor. Thanks Brothas!
REAL MUSIC & REAL MUSICIANS is what you get when spending One Night Alone with Prince. As a club member we also got VIP treatment for the concert and afterparty aftershow.
THE AFTER FUNKIN PARTY SHOW! Let me drop some names. Alicia Keys, Music Soulchild, Doug E. Fresh, of Larry G. and George Clinton performed on stage. When club members got there and things got organized WE (Club Memebers) were let in FIRST! The WHOLE ENTIRE FLOOR in front of the stage was reserved for US! The Party was JUMPIN! Literally! At least 2.5 hours worth of some James Brown cuts,, prince Jams, guest performances. Also in the House, Quest Love, Chris Rock!
The AFTER show was FUNKY FUNKY FUNKY FUNKY! If you're not a member you better join NOW!
THATS ALL FOR NOW! Gotta sleep!

well I just got back from full night of prince madness.the show at Avery fisher hall was electric.prince asked if its better to give or receive.well it all really depends on what your giving or getting.tonight was pure act of giving on his part.I was damn glad to receive.I was fully engulfed by his stage presence as soon as the show started.he gave until it hurt.leaving the audience wanting more.pure energy.I liked the old melody of classics as wells the new tunes.I wish however he would have played more complete songs instead of teasing us.I guess he does that best.leaving you to want more.the band was smoking.maceo was awesome.a surprise appearance by q tip was a cool twist. im glad that I went all out for this show.the crowd was on its feet most of the night.it seemed to please his royal purpleness that the crowd actually sat down and listened to his quiet renditions of both old and new songs.I must also add that crowd was mixed. all rainbow children.however I must say a thank to all the beautiful ladies that got dressed up for the occasion.WOW ! everyone must be applauded for singing along in perfect harmonies. I hope to see him back soon. the only down fall of the evening was due to the unorganized ability of the fan club table.im sorry but it shouldn't take two hours to let 400 people into the sound checks.most people at the mid way point or end of the line got there passes to late to enjoy it.I personally missed it.I hope in the future that the powers to be can get there act 2 gather.hint... use a automatic tix scan system like all the theatres are currently using.they are cheap and cost effective.bar codes are also a way to quicken the entry. thanks for letting me say my piece. now lets talk about the icing on the cake. the after party. it was at the world near 42nd street.although it was tight security and hard to find a good viewing spot, the venue was ok.there sound system rocked.it did take a few songs to get the mix right.when things finally got hot surprise guest showed up.George Clinton made a short and sweet attempt to play.followed by smoking guest shot by Alicia keys.sorry if the spelling is incorrect,it is currently 6 am.I must say the two hour show was awesome.it was a great cap off for the evening.thank you prince for giving it your all.keep up that sense of humor,it shines on you.I can only hope it don't take another 3 years for him to come back to NY.now more then ever we need hope.thanks for making this night one ill remember for a very long time. peace unto you all.TODD

I just have to say that the show in NYC was off the hook. I drove from DE to see the show and it was well worth the trip. Prince you are amazing you just showed you are the best artist around that night. I didn't want to leave I was having so much fun. That was my 2nd show I also saw the show in Buffalo. The crowd in NYC was definitely better than the crowd in Buffalo. I love the Rainbow Children CD I listen to it everyday. Change is definitely good and I love your new sound. The soundcheck and the aftershow were also good I loved the whole night alone with Prince and NPG. NPG was awesome keep up the good work. I would like to say hi to the ladies we met in line my girls Lynn and Evon we had so much fun thanks a lot. We hope to see the both of you at another concert. Thanks for the experience Prince and NPG. JOIN THE CLUB IF YOUR NOT A MEMBER IT HAS ITS BENEFITS.

Dear Prince,
Let me start by saying thank you. I had the night of my life on April 9, 2002. NYC really needed some diversion and you served it up with a vengeance. I have been a fam for over 20 years, and was afraid I would never be able to own another one of your records. You see, I too have embraced the truth and have been serving the true God for ten years along with my husband. Let me tell you, your heartfelt words of encouragement to the people of NY filled my heart with even more respect for you. I am so proud to call you brother. Be strong and know you are loved.

well, well, well... and bring the beat!
from third row at soundcheck, concert and afterparty, this was the musical experience my soul has been waiting for for a long time.
Since i was three when Purple Rain came out, Prince's career has been a little different for me (my first album of his was SYMBOL) Because of this i was expecting something different than maybe some of the more seasoned listeners were. I appreciated the suit (loved the hair cut too), the toning down of the message from sexual to sensual, and the clean language.
At a time when so many of our biggest performers are promoting idolatry and mediocrity, Tuesday was the night to exhale when Prince reminded us it was all about the music. The crowd was on its feet from the Rainbow Children and the energy never waned. Oh and as New Yorker i was definately indulging in the fantasy of WNPG, wishing that Mellow would come thru the static in my radiowaves, cuz Tepid 97 and W B(UL)L S. just arent' cuttin it.
To that lefty guitarist who jammed w/ Prince during soundcheck. ur pretty darn good, but don't parasite! Why would you risk losing one of the greatest moments of ur life trying to save it?
Prince,
Surprisingly enough what i was doing most of the night was praying. In between songs i was thanking God that there was someone with a voice strong enough and a spirit bold enough to deliver His message. I was so touched that U did not shy away from political sensitive subjects. When U said "The opposite of NATO is monotheism" i was like whoops, there it is! Songs like 1+1+1=3, Everlasting Now and Abraham Lincoln were sorely needed now, especially in the heart of NYC.
I've been here my whole life and it meant so much for U to say "i feel ur pain." I knew ur prayers were with us and i thank u for that. New York was definately feelin U on tuesday night! I know U could feel the Love.
hmm... the afterparty. my first one and i had a blast. I was beggin to hear Last December, but oh well, i know i was greedy, but U know we NPCMC members are insatiable. Funkmaster GC was a little... relaxed, but it was still a pleasure to see him. Okay here it comes...LARRY GRAHAM, LARRY GRAHAM, LARRY GRAHAM. Where have i been all UR life! You were absolutely KILLIN me with that bass. I mean my rib cage was vibrating w/ ur slaps. I was screamin for you to do Hair, but i guess u didn't hear me ;) The chemistry b/w U and Prince on stage was felt throughout the crowd. Y'all were like family together up there and we felt like we were invited to the family affair! Thank U so much.
This concert has helped me so much spiritually and musically, i mean if you just look at the band, the NPG spans at least three generations. That is inspiring and beautiful. Thank U Prince and NPG. U guys make me work harder. I wanted to know whether or not the NPG studied and prayed together. I can tell now that it does. Invite me to a bible study! I'd love to share w/ U.
God Bless
U

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Really. Great big gobs of thanks go to everyone involved in making this tour come together and run so smoothly for the fams.
The whole soundcheck thing is just incredible. Thank you, Prince for your generosity. To hear songs like "Power Fantastic" and "Calhoun Sqaure"!! live was just...I don't have the words.
I brought along some friends, 2 of which I got to join the club just for the chance to see him up close. Each of them brought a friend and they all let me know that they were a little sceptical at how this was all going to come together. By the end of the night (4:30am!!) I had recieved sooo many thanks from all of them over and over again, I felt like I was working for the NPG!!!
This truly was a remarkable concert going experience. I won't go into details as I'm still recovering, and exhausted ( I had to work the next two days after). But I had to write a thank you to Prince and all the employees at NPGmusicclub. I have seen him 13 times before this One Nite Alone Tour and this was the best all around experience...12 hours of PRINCE!?! Come On! Amazing, truly.
Thank you.

I am at a loss for words. It's been a few days since I went to the show at Avery Fisher Hall and it's still all I can think about. I've been such an admirerer for so long that the show in New York was the best I've ever seen. I saw Prince 4 times in Hawaii (the last time being the greatest show until this one) and once more in Phoenix. Nothing compared to the night on Tuesday. He was just hanging out, talking with people during the sound check, and to see that, other musicians should take a class from him! The show itself was amazing. He played songs I never thought I'd hear live - but then again, it was his radio station. When he came out at the encore, just him and the piano, and played "Adore", I was done in - I didn't think it got better than that. Then, "Sometimes it Snows in April", Strange Relationship", too good!!
Then, the after show. Doug E. Fresh was incredible and picked up the words that Q-Tip had a hard time finding at the show. Questlove and Musiq were such a good suprise. But, when Alicia Keys came out, I thought I would need someone to hold me up. She, with Prince, was absolutley incredible. The thing about the after show that wowed me was to see Prince take a step back and let his guests shine - like he was just another guy up there in a band.
It was amazing! And then to hear "Ballad of Dorothy Parker" live, I never thought I'd see the day. If he played "Girl" I think I would've needed some help out of the building!
See this show! It was, for me, the best to date. Prince, you are such an inspiration and will continue to be for every day to come. Thank you!

Dear Prince,
I am still in amazement from last nights show at Avery
Fisher Hall here in NYC.
It was so possessing. When I looked out at you on
stage, my eyes could never turn away, you were truly
mesmerizing to see.
I wish other performers would be as cool as you by
interacting with the fans, and even bringing some of
them on stage. You are the greatest star on the planet
and yet you manage to stay grounded and just be real.
You have the greatest sense of humor too. I love
everything about you; especially your music. More than
anything, it is so inspiring and so moving. I was
really hoping that you would perform 'Sometimes It
snows in April’. and when you did, I was just beside
myself.
You really know what the true fans want to hear. You
connect with the audience and at the same time you are
perfection in motion. You were truly in top form last
night. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart
for taking the time to entertain us last night. I
never wanted it to end, but I know you'll be back in
NYC real soon.
I hope you felt some of that love and energy that I was
sending your way. I was standing in the first balcony,
dead center to the stage. I had no idea that if you
joined the fan club you would be treated like royalty.
I promise to join the fanclub now so I can finally, one
day, see you up close.
It was and always will be my greatest concert
experience and I hope to one day follow in your
footsteps and move people with my own music. Thank you
from the bottom of my heart.

Hi,
I am still dancing from last nights concert at Avery Fisher Hall.
The sound check was awesome like a mini concert for the fam members, Prince was funny & super cool. It was Awesome, Prince even gave a fam member a chance to come up & jam with him ... that was really cool of him and the guy really played good. I met several Fam members on line they were great! We shared fruit water, and one big umbrella. We had lots of fun together. My husband & I were really ecstatic to have the opportunity to be so up close to the action, we have been fans from the beginning and never missed a concert in our area. The Concert was Awesome as well. I loved the ballads! I joined the club 2 years ago not 4 any other reason other than to support the most talented
musician on the face of this planet! Keep on rocking Prince your the best! We will support your efforts till the day we leave this planet!
I missed the after party, because I had to get the kids up & off to school. I can't wait to hear how it was. Peace, Love, Positivity to all...Donna

O.K. This is it. If you don't believe that Prince is by far the greatest performer and entertainer of this generation and perhaps past, u just don't get it. Avery fisher Hall, in NYC was the greatest concert experience of my life. It is refreshing to hear musicians, extraordinary musicians perform under the guidance of one of the greatest musicians of all time. Thanx Prince for an incredible evening.
From one musician to another.
Keep me jammin, I'm still thirsty.

I have to say this was the most inspirational and uplifting concert I have ever been to. Prince was absolutely amazing, I have been to many of his concerts, this was my first concert as a NPG Music Club member and I was blown away.
At sound check Prince was taking requests, talking with us, I couldn't believe it, he was sitting three rows behind me and singing Joy in Repetition!! What more could you ask for!
The concert lasted almost 3 1/2 hours, two encores, appearances by Larry Graham and Q-Tip, and a extraordinary piano solo.....Just prince, the piano, us and all the old jams we know and love. Prince really gave himself to the fans and I hope he knows how much love and respect we have for him.
I was unable to go to the after party because of family obligations, but I must say that Prince left me feeling very satisfied, so I didn't feel to bad.
For all who are Prince fans JOIN THE NPG MUSIC CLUB!!!!!! Just like American Express.....Membership Has It's Privileges!

What I witnessed last night is almost impossible to describe but I'll try my best. Last night was the most phenomemonal night I've had in NYC since I moved up from VA a year and a half ago. I've seen dozens of Prince/O+> shows but nothing compares to last night. From the moment I walked in the soundcheck and saw him throwing down on his guitar I knew I was in for a great night. Hearing rare gems like Power Fantastic and Extraordinary, the soundcheck was worth the price of admission alone. It was cool just seeing him sitting amongst the fans performing. But greater things were yet to come. While I was looking forward to hearing the new material live, I wondered if the show would lack that raw edginess of his earlier shows. Surprisingly, I didn't miss the swearing, I missed the nastiness a little ;). But, I believe that this is,if not the best, of one the best Prince shows that I've ever seen. But the greatness was still to come. The aftershow was where I witnessed something that I've been waiting for the longest time. Every since I bought Alicia Keys' album and heard the remake of "How Come You Call Me Anymore" I've been wishing for a duet. Last night not only did Alicia Keys' dream coming true but so did mine. To see the two of them performing the song was to die for. All in all it was an incredible soundcheck, show, aftershow, and a wonderful night in NYC. Thanks Prince :)

Magically Delicious!
I have seen you many times and I have to say this was the most Beautiful,
Joyful, Creative, Seductive, Enchanting, Electrifying, and Spiritual (any
other adjective to express Perfect) show.
I have witnessed and felt pure joy last night!
I appreciate you allowing us into the sound check, which was so generous of
you. That was very special to me. I wish you could have stayed all night
too.
The show just proved once again how much you continue to grow as a human
being and artist. Just watching how you feed off the audience and how every
move you make goes with every tiny sound of your music is almost unreal. But
then again, the music is like a part of your body and soul which are in
perfect harmony.
I'm not very good at expressing myself with words, but I don't think there
is a word for the emotion I felt last night anyway.
And if it is the last time I see you play, I will keep last night in my
heart forever.
The band is probably the best you've ever assembled.
Thank you for sharing your God given blessing with us.
Unfortunately I had to leave to travel home after the show, so I'm sure I
missed an outrageous after party.
God continues to Bless you!
Love always, Maryrose

I must admit, your concert was EXCELLENT. I went to your concert at Madison Square Garden in NYC back in 97 and even though
that concert was hot, this one was even better.I felt this concert was more personal because it was just you with no other musical
guests (except 2 minutes of Q-Tip).I felt a lot of love in the house last night. I'm about to join the npg club. I don't know why I didn't
join it be4ore, especially I only have 29 original cd's of yours. Maybe next concert, I can be right there in the front row, up close and personal. Keep up the good work that you do. You are my best artists. It's funny, if someone disses you, I just give them a look and
they start laughting and say they're only joking. They better be.
Peace & love
One love always,

Thank u, Prince, 4 a nite that I will remember 4 the rest of my
life. From the moment I got in line at noon until the last notes of
Everlasting Now faded from the air at The World, it was a perfect
experience. I was amazed at how many Music Club members were lined up for
the show. When I got there at noon I was expecting 2 be the only one there,
but there were already 18 other peeple waiting. The soundcheck was
terrific, with Prince in a great humor. When people started yelling for
Housequake, Prince responded with "Um, Hello, this isn't 1986." It was a
wonderfully funny moment. Also, we were treated 2 a full version of Calhoun
Square (Prince, u can make a guitar do things that just scare me), half of
Joy In Repitition, and a guitar powered jam with an audience member on lead.
I was a little nervous when he had his wife take a picture, but I do
understand. That is a once in a lifetime oppurtunity, and I would want a
picture of it 2! And thank u Prince 4 taking that, (and the slight
craziness), of the New York crowd in stride. We just haven't seen u 4 so
long we got a little overexcited!
The actual show was jaw-dropping. I didn't think that Prince & the
NPG could top themselves from the D.C. shows, but boy was I wrong. Prince
pulled out all the stops. His falsetto soared. The NPG sound tighter than
they ever have. Rhonda smacked that bass like she would never get 2 play it
again, Johnny B blew my mind over and over again, (how do u move u're hands
so fast?), Renato made me say Mr.Hayes who, and the NPG horns sounded like a
single blast of energy. Maceo, u r, by the way, the absolute man. Prince
smirked, danced, jammed, and ripped his way through half of the Rainbow
Children, as well as Strange Relationship, Annastesia, and a stunning and
very unexpected version of Purple Rain, which brought me 2 tears. That song
has always struck a chord with me, but hearing Prince play it in New York,
with such passion and love... I guess the thing that really got me was when
he spoke about 9/11. I lost two friends that day, and I couldn't do
anything except sit there with tears on my cheeks and listen, feeling them
next 2 me and listening 2 that beautiful song. Prince, if I never get 2 say
it in person, thank u 4 that. The show itself, however, did not prepare me
for what happened next. Nothing could have.
Right after the show let out, I grabbed a cab 2 the aftershow. Now,
I was from Avery Fisher to Times Square in less than ten minutes, and there
was already a line of about 75 or 100 people. What did u guys do, take a
jet??? Anyway, we waited for George Clinton (Funkmeister extraordinaire),
2 finish up his show, which took about an hour. So we stood in line in the
rain, chatting about the show, and wondering who would show up 4 the
afterparty. By the way, Carmen and Lala, if u guys read this, thanks 4
chillin.' U guys were great, and u're welcome 4 my help with all the fence
jumping :) . The aftershow was breathtaking. We were privy to the royalty
of the Old school and the New at their best. Soulchild, Alicia, Doug E.
(Beatboxing's original master!!), Larry, ?uestlove... need I say more? It
was incredible. Alicia hit the stage like a bombshell, improvising along 2
a groove with Prince on bass, and then hitting us with a stunning version of
How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore with Prince on keys. And I'm sorry but I
have 2 say it... Alicia u r beautiful. Prince opened the aftershow with
Joy In Repitition, and had the whole audience swooning. Some of the other
highlights were the battle between Doug and John, (who won anyway?), Larry
taking us through the jam, Soulchild rockin' the mic, and Candy Duffer's
several solos. Oh, and did I mention that Dr. Funkenstein himself hit the
stage 2 pump up the crowd? Prince did an encore of Everlasting now that had
me jumping up and down the entire time, shouting along 2 every lyric. I
listened 2 The Rainbow Children the entire way home. My knees ached, I was
drenched with sweat, my throat was killing me, and I never stopped smiling.
Peace B Wild,
Mike
